Clayton Kershaw allowed a leadoff single to Ohtani, but made the Angel look bad – picking him off first base. Afterward both Kershaw and Ohtani had big smiles on their faces. Acuna hit the ball hard, lacing a leadoff double and scoring on Mookie Betts’ single to single. A Blue Jays pitcher was miced up and carried on a conversation with Smoltz – while he was pitching. He did a good job, striking out Joc Peterson to end the inning. Riley got a hit.
Speaking of Ohtani, on Sunday the Braves drafted a high school pitcher (named Murphy) with amazing pitching and hitting stats, though he played fewer games up in cold-weather Illinois, against possibly inferior private school competition. This Murphy kid wants to pull an Ohtani, playing the field and hitting when he isn’t pitching. The Braves have agreed to the experiment. We shall see.
Good devotional from John Ed. Should be titled Avoiding the Hall of Shame. At least once a month or so something will pop up on my radar screen to remind me of the Kekich / Peterson trade. Guess I need to research whatever happened to those guys and their families. A few years ago I heard rumors of a fancy subdivision up in Woodstock where something similar happened with several families, with less than positive results.

Actually got a lot of work done on Tuesday, handling all but one email in my in box. A record. Should allow me to knock out a project or two today. Since I had come in early and worked through lunch, I left right at five. Had errands to run but decided to drive straight home.
M was home watching Anthony Bourdain. The show seemed to be more about social justice than anything food related. M had a good first day working at Monday Night Garage. He works today and tomorrow as well.
Fixed BBQ quesadillas for supper. I wasn’t feeling 100% when I went to bed. Should’ve taken something last night. Woke up feeling the same way so I skipped the gym (again) and got an extra hour of sleep / rest. Added extra vitamins to my morning koolade but left it at home. Stopped by Chickfila for a chicken biscuit (the new east Roswell CFA drive through is lightning quick). Also RaceTrac for a wonder drug: diet Mtn Dew (see article below). I’ll take a full dose of vitamins again today.

ROBIN YOUNT [SABR Bio] was AL MVP in 1982 as a shortstop, with CAL’s Reggie Jackson siphoning off the only other first-place vote. Jackson’s 3.1 WAR that season, while respectable, was only 39th best in the league, far behind Yount’s 10.6. Yount won the AL MVP again in 1989, this time playing centerfield in 144 of his 160 games played. Together with his brother, they racked up 20 years of major league experience, with more than 2,000 games and 3,000 hits. Brother Larry only appearing in 1 G in the majors. In the 1982 WS, Yount collected four hits in G 1 as well as four hits in G 5. – two of the three wins for MIL in that World Series.

This promise is preceded by a condition: "The one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption, but the one who sows to the Spirit will from the Spirit reap eternal life" (v. 8). As biblical scholar William Hendrickson explains, the phrase "sows to the Spirit" means "to allow the Holy Spirit to have his way."
