How far did Apollo 14 astronaut Alan Shephard's golf shot travel on the moon? Probably not miles and miles, as Shephard playfully said at the time. More like 200 yards. Not bad for a one-handed shot while wearing a bulky spacesuit.

Had a dream last night that traffic had been re-routed and I went inside this place at the corner of Holcomb Bridge and Old Alabama, where the BP/McDonalds is now. The SPdL adult choir was gathering there, with robes on. Saw several familiar faces, including Ginny Green. Then old Bob Marsh was coming up the stairs. I went out back and sat at a table with my boss. Charles Baugh joined us. I was trying to tell him about the choir but he was looking at these plastic glasses that someone was trying to sell us. Someone said the Whitakers were there. I saw one lady that looked like Edie, but never saw Reid. My boss had left for the office. I hopped in a golf cart and drove around the building. A kitten was there next to Holcomb Bridge Road with its mother – a full grown lion. I drove my open golf cart right past the lion. Then I was inside a seafood restaurant. They were bringing all sorts of food, big platters. I ordered a Diet Coke. No appearance by Don Head.
Not much else. Worked until 6 pm. Ceil made a grilled chicken arubala salad. Matthew ate with us.
NELSON BRILES [SABR Bio] took Bob Gibson's place when Gibson broke his leg, then won nine straight decisions. Gibson broke his leg on 15-Jul-1967 when it was struck by a Roberto Clemente line drive. Courageously, Hoot faced 3 more batters, but was out of the lineup until 07‑Sep. Briles stepped into the Cardinal rotation beginning 21-Jul. Briles sang the National Anthem before game four of the 1973 World Series (he wasn't in that game). He met his wife through "Damn Yankees" although he never played for the Yankees. He and his wif met in the Chico (CA) High School staging of the play "Damn Yankees". They were still married when he passed away 40 years later. He loved opera,, jazz and hunting. He once shot a moose.
CAL RIPKEN [SABR Bio] is the 3,000-hit club member with the lowest career batting average: 3,184 hits; a .276 career average. Hit .305 or better. He hit .300 or better 5 times. Had 100+ RBI 5 times. He was the first shortstop in American League history to hit 30 HR, bat .300 and have 100 RBI in a season. In 1991 Cal hit 34 HR, 114 BI and hit .323 and won the AL MVP. Ernie Banks was the first to do it in MLB in 1958. Among shortstops, only he and Honus Wagner ever posted a season's WAR score of at least 11.0. Wagner = 11.5 in 1908; Ripken = 11.5 in 1991. They each played 100% of their games at SS those years.
