Second Bite: WZ Tavern

Friday we met friends at a sports bar that we'd been to once before, that C wasn't crazy about. The WZ Tavern in East Cobb. We sat at a table to wait, in front of the restaurant. The wait was long due to the Friday crowd, and they were short staffed. We wound up having our meal there at that table. Much quieter than inside (there was live music) plus it was a pleasant night outside.

The ladies ordered salads and my friend and I ate large burgers. Very nice. Mine had bacon and an onion ring on it. Everyone enjoyed the food, but Ceil won't want to go back. Not healthy enough. Neither are the Bad Daddy's Burgers or BBQ place next door. 

Up early Saturday morning to golf at Chandler Park. I played with the other early birds for the first time, Robert from the neighborhood plus two younger guys from Auburn, one named Davis who just got engaged. Usually I play alone, ahead or behind them . Afterwards I headed north to Marietta. Took back roads past the mountain to pick up my new golf clubs in Kennesaw.

The workers were installing the new floor, so C and I took Winnie out shopping, to two Home Goods stores, a Target, an estate sale, and finally to Moxie Burger to split a chicken sandwich and a huge pile of fries. Back home to watch GT@Clemson, then SC@GA. Kept tabs on Bama@Florida.

Sunday School, then home for a stir fry lunch. Took a nap. Did some laundry. Watched some of the Falcons, who played better than expected.

Sometimes at JFBC a pastor will preach the first hour in either the sanctuary or gymnasium, then a tape will play during the second hour. When this happens a staff member sits backstage, ready with a sermon to preach in case the technology fails. Kind of like the designated survivor cabinet meeting during the state of the union address. The Sunday it was Brian, our Sunday School teacher. We had a substitute teacher lead.  

Reid: I spent 13 years in the military learning that to be late for something is to be disrespectful. So, I rarely am late for ANYTHING.

Me: I hate hate hate to be late. Hate it at JFBC as so many come into the gym late. Seems like some think they can just come as go as they please. Many people drink coffee or water or even snacks with them to eat during the service. There's a coffee shop right outside the door to the gym. Drives me crazy. This is supposed to be church! Wish we could go to the sanctuary, where the music is better. But Heather Swilley does a great job helping lead the singing in the gym.

Yes I would rather be early, to church or a game or small group, which starts this evening. Same three guys Rob, Ron, and leader John, plus we're adding two more: my good friend the other Reid, and Jamie, slightly older than me from South America, who is really passionate about sharing Jesus. More about Jamie to come. Pronounced Heimie.

Winnie's hair seems to be changing color, from her original jet black to dark grey with brown. We shall see.

The Cafe Racer in Crawford Ga looks like a good place to eat.

My stress level has been going up and down. Between work and other things.

PATSY GHARRITY [SABR Bio] set the American League record for most bases in a game, Joe Hauser break in 1924. On 23-Jun-1919 Gharrity had 13 bases, including a single, two doubles, and his first MLB home run. Hauser got 14 on 02-Aug-1924, the only three HR game of Hauser's career. Gharrity was one of Walter Johnson's first coaches when Johnson became a major league manager. He was a Senators' coach in 1929-30. Then in 1933-35 he re-joined manager Walter Johnson's staff in Cleveland. After a less-than-successful career as an umpire and manager in the minors, he served on the Beloit, Wisconsin City Council and was president of the Baseball Old-Timers Association.

Auburn donnned white facemasks for the first time ever (below). Much better than the navy masks they used to wear. Much better than Penn State's navy masks. Nebraska wore grey masks to celebrate the anniversary of their epic game against Oklahoma. Love.
