Hearing reports that GT Head Coach Geoff Collins told the GT band to not play before third down plays. Instead rap music is played, because “that’s the culture of the program” the band was told. Collins says Tech is a “player led” team. Fans are getting madder and madder at his non-response after Saturday’s loss to Northern Illinois, who went 0-6 last year. Sure building a winner takes time, but hasn’t he had enough time already to beat Northern Illinois and the Citadel? But Collins’ job is safe for now, since GT can’t afford to buy out his contract.
GT fans are wishing Paul Johnson was still the coach. Johnson could take over this team right now and be more competitive than Collins is. Tech missed what – 3 field goals? They’ve had kicking problems the past two years under Collins, and didn’t move to correct the problem over the off-season. There are enough good kickers out there for every Power 5 school to have a good kicker. I would say there aren’t any good kickers who like rap music, but I know that’s not the case.
Starting QB Jeff Sims accumulated a 2.6 QB rating (worst in the country) but Collins defended him. Glad GT backup QB Yates had a big game. I hope he gets to play more.

Remember Doug Stuart? Around our age, right Don? Word is that Doug attended Sunday School at SPdL yesterday. His sister was a little more active, back in the day. I think Kristen Stuart was her name. Doug probably doesn’t remember me. For several years I saw Doug watching the Peachtree Road Race from outside Piedmont Hospital, in his white doctor’s coat. Hadn’t seen him at the race the past few years, but I’d usually remember to look for him. All along the Peachtree course I’d be on the lookout for people I know. Used to be a big event to watch. Not so much any more.

LOU GEHRIG [SABR Bio] holds the American League single-season record for runs batted in, knocking in 185 in 1931. Gehrig set the record the very next season after the National League record was set. The Cubs’ Hack Wilson had 191 RBI in 1930. Both records still stand and haven’t been seriously challenged since 1937, when Hanke Greenberg had 184. Gehrig explained his decision to leave his Ivy League school to turn pro saying, “When I left school to play baseball it was a case of necessity.” He went on to explain, “There were hospital & doctor bills to pay. My family needed the money.” Gehrig had attended Columbia University in his native New York City.
