HIGH TECH: the little button on the door to lock the car. I have one of those buttons and figured out how to unlock the car, but never realized I could also use the same little button to lock the car. This will change my life!
HIGH TECH: there's a little flashlight button on iPhones that I could never get to work. Then I noticed how Will held the button down for an extra second, instead of just tapping it. So that's how it works!
Mr. Key lived across the street from my mother on North Stratford. May have gotten her a job as a secretary at Coke. He helped out when she went to NYC, and got her aisle seat tickets to the Tonight Show. Andy Williams was the guest, and when he sang a song he came out and knelt down and sang to my mother.
Long day yesterday. Left the office at 420 pm. Stopped by Baskin Robbins for me free birthday cone. Peanut butter & chocolate looked low so I opted for pralines & cream. Then I placed a to go order for a free slice of cheesecake from Hooters. Ate it at home, then ate some leftover meatballs. Took out the trash and picked up some items, then drove down to W&MCs house. Shivy was exhausted from her long day at school. I turned down the bright lights, lowered the windowshades, and showed her some videos on my phone. Took her a while to calm down. Took C a while to calm down as well.
I was tired as well, and crashed on the couch. Didn't know how to turn on the TV, so I dozed off to sleep. Winnie and Okie got along well.
Since I have to drive to the office from west of downtown, I woke up early to work 7-4. Left Mozely Park at 545 and arrived at the office at 625 after my usual stop at RaceTrac. At lunch today I went in for a focus group. They paid me $40.00 to give my opinions on the two new Applebees menu items they fed us: a great big Hot Honey Mustard chicken sandwich, and a caramel cinnamon apple pie dish with vanilla ice cream. Both were very tasty.
Always good to go to the gym even when you don't feel like it.
One of Matthew's good friends at Kimball House used to cook at the Cheshire Bridge Taqueria. I think his name is Chris? He was the one who got M into golf. In October they are flying to Philadelphia to golf at Chris' father's country club. M bought a Nike Sasquatch driver. He had previously bought a putter.
Speaking of golf, since I'm staying downtown I will probably golf tomorrow morning, Saturday, maybe early Sunday morning, and again two weekdays next week.
Not sure why some east coast departments work 7-4 when they serve other departments that work 8-5, as well serving other offices in later time zones. Perhaps there's a good reason.
MILLER HUGGINS [SABR Bio] was counseled by a future U.S. Supreme Court Chief Justice that, based on his performance in law school, he had a better chance of lasting success in baseball than in law. Huggins was a student athlete at the University of Cincinnati where his wise law professor was William Howard Taft. After a 5-year stint with the Cardinals as a player/manager, Huggins succeeded Wild Bill Donovan as NYY's skipper. From 1921 to 1928, he guided the Yankees to 6 AL pennants and 3 World Series championships. Neither before nor since has "Miller" as a first name nor "Huggins" as a last name ever appeared more than once in MLB history—a "Double-Unique". Only Bid McPhee and Addie Joss have lasted longer as Double‑Unique Hall of Famers.
DENISON: in 1953, Americans' belief in God was near 100%. More than 90% identified as Christians, and 73% were church members. That same year, psychologist Rollo May wrote in Man's Search for Himself that the opposite of courage in our society is not cowardice but conformity. Now that church membership has fallen below 50% for the first time in American history, what would he say about conformity to our "post-Christian" culture? Should church members park in a bike lane?
