NLCS: Dodgers Lose Again

Late yesterday the MLB twitter account posted about the NLCS seven times, did not once mentioning the Braves. There were scores of empty seats at Dodger Stadium, and fans in attendance left the game early in droves. Guess MLB was trying to get Dodger fans to go to the game. Today @MLB is being slightly more even steven.

Home runs by Freeman and Duvall and two by Rosario, who also singled and tripled. Duvall acting like Acuna or Andruw out in centerfield. The Dodgers tried three different players in center. Each misplayed a ball. Dansby stole a base and scored on Freddie’s ground rule double. Several rarely-used Braves relievers shut down the vaunted Dodger lineup. Hated that Will Smith had to be used. The less familiarity the Dodgers batters have with him, the better.

When the Braves extended their lead to 9-2 in the top of the 9th inning, the TBS announcers finally were silenced, allowing Francoeur to joyfully talk about the Braves. Someone had to say something.

I stayed up for the entire game, wearing my lucky Braves watch and a different Braves program at my side. After the Braves broke out in the top of the first, I left the remote where it had been – next to the TV. Today I wore the same outfit as yesterday, including my tomahawk A windbreaker.

Fans in the stands included Entertainment Tonight's Mary Hart (below right). Magic Johnson. Tonight I saw Dodgers owner Stan Kasten.

After work yesterday I stopped by the driving range. C went out with friends. M did the same. Had time to watch the climatic last episode of “Only Murders in the Building” before the game (exclusive: Steve and Selena and Martin start shooting season 2 in 6 weeks).

Fixed a quesadilla for supper. Ate a piece of Matthew’s zucchini cake.

BRANCH RICKEY [SABR Bio] once allowed thirteen stolen bases in one game. On 28-Jun-1907, Rickey with a sore arm threw out no one as seven Senators stole a base on him a total of 13 times. Rickey had three home runs as a player, with two coming on 06-Aug-1906. He faired only slightly better as a manager, leading two teams based in the same city to sub-.500 record. Rickey managed the St. Louis Browns from 1913 to 1915, with a record of 139-179-12. He took over the Cardinals  from 1919 to 1925, leading them to a record of 458-485-4. The Cards won the NL pennant and WS the year after he left. His quotes are one of his greatest legacies. He once opined, “Man may penetrate the outer reaches of the universe; he may solve the very secret of eternity itself; but for me, the ultimate human experience is to witness the flawless execution of a hit-&-run.”

Ephesians 3:1-13 Qualities of the apostle Paul.  What do you want people to say about you at your funeral? When people die they talk about God and people

A. Paul was in jail because of God’s activity in his life, because of the Gentiles. Paul spent his last days in jail. He wanted his parchments. He was a prisoner of the gospel

B. Pail was a faithful steward. God made known to Paul mysteries and insights. Verse 6 The Gentiles are fellow heirs in God’s kingdom. Are bigger deal than we could know. Paul received revelations from God.

1. The creation and fall

2. Israel and the covenants

3. Jesus

4. Holy Spirit

5. Revelation

C. Paul was a grace addict. Verse 7 - I am the least of God’s servants. Grace is God doing something in your life that you can’t do yourself. My grace is sufficient, my strength is sufficient. In our weakness God’s power is perfected. He will not take my burden away because God will be glorified through my situation.

D. Pail was a cosmic theologian. He wanted God’s enormous message to be known throughout the world. God is using His church to proclaim His message, the wisdom of God. We have boldness and confident access through Jesus.

E. Paul was a glory dealer. Verse 13. Don’t lose heart: my tribulations are your glory. If there is a cost to follow God, be willing to pay it. As Bonhoeffer said: “the seminary, the work of God, has to be stronger than the Third Reich."

Denison: my wife and I were watching primetime network television the other night when ads appeared for children's products featuring LGBTQ advocacy. From dolls to toys, cartoons, and movies, the push to normalize LGBTQ behavior among the youngest members of society continues. How can Christians live and raise our families in a culture that is forcing its norms on us in unprecedented ways? We need to guard our children and our minds from the onslaught of unbiblical morality in our day. We need community with fellow believers to encourage and strengthen our resolve to follow Jesus. We can also step up to the challenges we face with courage that trusts our earthly lives and eternal lives to our Lord. Whatever happens to us, the best is yet to come.

Article: what bosses find unacceptable: lateness, too much time on social media, making personal calls, inappropriate jokes, using speakerphone in shared spaces, gossip, using ALL CAPS, not silencing cellphones.
