Falcons, Bama, Longhorns Lose

How was your new years? After church Sunday morning we ate at Goldbergs Deli with the Earharts, and my other friend Reid. I had the breakfast burger, with bacon and a fried egg. Sunday afternoon I raked the yard. Went to bed at 10:30.

Watched the Falcons. Man they can’t beat anyone. Bears QB played hard to show teams what a good QB he is, though he ranks near the bottom of most QB stats – below Ritter is many categories. Still I hear Falcon fans saying that Atlanta should pay dearly to get him. Other fans say the Falcons should take on Russell Wilson’s huge contract. Not the answer. Heck if you want to dual threat, athletic QB, draft the kid from LSU or Washington.

Sunday the Philadelphia Eagles intercepted a deep pass from Arizona Cardnals QB Kyler Murray, and returned to 90+ yards for a TD. I did not see the athletic, mobile Murray giving chase. Granted I only saw the replay once. I just want players that give 100% on every play.

Similarly, some Braves fans can’t see the genius in trading an unproved player (who doesn’t have a spot in the lineup) for an experienced pitcher, with the Red Sox paying the pitcher’s salary. The Braves have nothing to lose in the deal.

Also a fan wondered if the Falcons should get Michigan head coach Jim Harbaugh as a head coach. Why in the world would Harbaugh come to the Falcons? When Harbaugh became head coach of Michigan, he turned himself into old school Woody Schembechler. The M cap, the glasses, the baggy kaikis from Target, the black coaching shoes.

Slept late Monday morning. Spent all morning upstairs cleaning. Watched some of the Citrus Bowl, and two movies. Then the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. Michigan looked good. Many couldn’t believe their O-line wasn’t called for holding. Michigan seemed to get most of the breaks. Like many, I thought the final play call by Bama could have been better.

Similarly, in the Sugar Bowl it seems like most of the breaks and penalty calls were going Washington’s way. I have no interest in next week’s championship game.

Was thinking how in the second half of the Orange Bowl, UGA played their third string: QB, RBs, WRs, and other subs on both offense and defense. Both UGA and FSU were missing the same number of players. Both teams were missing their best player to injury. All things were pretty much equal in the second half. And UGA outscored FSU 21-0 in the second half. FSU just signed former Clemson QB DJ U, who spent the 2023 season at Oregon State. Prediction: Clemson will beat FSU in 2024.

Up early this morning to run at the gym.

Denison: In 2023 Taylor Swift would pass Elvis Presley as the soloist with the most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

The best hike in every state. For Georgia, it’s walking up Stone Mountain.
