All Star Week: Day Three

This morning's brief rain shower pushed our practice time back to 930. We arrived at 8 am and then sat in section 112 of the ballpark, in the right field corner.

Blooper was out posing for photos. Saw him with his head off. Took a photo that I will use to blackmail him with. Not much other action.

Had a break this morning so we walked around the Battery at 11 am. Not much was going on. Finished up at 1 pm. We didn't get to move the big red stage out on the field today, so we have to come back tomorrow morning.

We get to wear cool field staff shirts, but these Nike dri-fit shirts are tight. This morning I wore my long sleeve Grizzlies shirt to ward off the sun, and it was hot. Did get a shout out from a girl rom Memphis, so there was that.

I had driven home during our break to eat lunch. We have lots of leftovers even though C had left on Tuesday. Washed the pile of dishes, then it was about time to come back.

The group that I am "working" for is called Ballpark Music. They put on postgame concerts after MLB games. Now maybe I'll be on a list for them to help out in the future. Some people working at the fanfest have worked at 10-20 previous all star games.

Third straight day that I've done zero work. Been looking at emails but that's about it. Had to be back at the ballpark at five. Saw the anthem singer pass through, as well as the umpiring crew.

They added extra work: pushing more equipment out on the field before tonight's HBCU Swingman Classic.

So I hung around for a little of that game, between the top 50 players from HBCU schools. Since it was general admission seating, Beau and I sat in the Ryerson seats. I saw my favorite usher Larry, and we had a nice chat. He said to use him as a reference should I apply for gameday staff.

Decent crowd, many alumni wearing school garb. Brian Jordan managed one team, and Dave Justice the other.

Game started at 7 pm. After the national anthem we push the mini-video boards off the field (below).

As we raced into position, we were reminded that the time was 6:58. A skinny kid slugged a home run to deep center field. Beau and I stuck around for some of the game. I left during the rain delay.

Gotta be back to the ballpark at 8 am tomorrow. I'm supposed to work at the fanfest at 1 pm across the 285 pedestrian bridge, so hopefully I'll make it. Then after my fanfest shift ends at 8 pm I will go back to the ballpark for the celebrity game.

Last night I played on my laptop in my office after eating chicken parmigiana that M had made. Had the movie The Sandlot playing in the other room.

Anna is loving it out in Idaho.
