Peachtree Junior

On Wednesday W&MC took M&S to Lenox Square via MARTA for the Peachtree Junior race. For the little ones like them thay had a 50 yard dash inside a tent. The music was blasting and there were mascots everywhere: Harry the Hawk and Freddy the Falcon, the Chickfila cow, and others. Pretty scary for little ones. The girlies were out of sorts, so it wasn’t a good experience.

My office shut down at 3 pm. I headed west to Roswell to pick up the key to M’s truck. He needs a muffler repair. I continued west to Woodstock to visit a recommended muffler shop. On the way home I stopped by a thrift store in the area.

Wednesday night we went over to my friend Shawn’s house. He hosts a big party to view the Indian Hills fireworks, which are shot off about 50 yards from his house (on the right, in the background of where others gather to watch).

Several old friends there, and made some new ones. Catered by Willys. Matthew had made oatmeal cookie sandwiches, with a cream cheese filling. We left before the fireworks, thank goodness. I had an early wake up call.

I saw a blind person walker the race, guided by a volunteer. Also saw a wheelchair being pushed by two volunteers.

After the race yesterday I did stop by one thrift store on the way home. Saw an interesting water bottle with a hard rock cassette tape wrapper. Got home and showered, then we went over to a cookout in the next neighborhood, at the home of David & Amy Cox. Ceil took potato salad and tossed a salad. They had invited the Sunday School class as well as a few neighbors. The Rices, Mayfields, Karen, Tabitha, the Harrells, and the Halls.

Took it easy the rest of the day. Ceil cooked chicken thighs, okra, and mashed purple potatoes. I added some of the leftover potato salad.

Slept in this morning, and have done some housework. Got the oil changed in Ceil’s car.

Braves finally scored some runs Wednesday night, after failing to score in like 3 of the last 5 games. They lost another starting pitcher. Strider had started the year on the injured list. He’s back, but now Schellenbach joined Sale, Lopez, and Smith-Shauber on the IL. Half the lineup is in a slump: Harris, Ozzie, that shortstop. Baldwin has cooled off. Murphy’s bat is finally waking up. The bullpen is in shambles. It’s Snitker’s fault. At least Strider can field.

FRANK ROBINSON [SABR Bio] was the first to amass at 200 home runs in each league, ending with 343 in the NL and 243 in the AL. He won Manager of the Year managing a team that finished 12 games under .500 and out of the postseason, in 1989 w/BAL. He is one of only two major leaguers to win MVP, World Series MVP, and the All-Star Game MVP. He won NL MVP in 1961 and AL MVP in 1966; won the WS MVP in 1966; and ASG MVP in 1971.
