Some are picking Tech to go 11-1 this season, but they have Clemson at 12-0 which would mean GT beats UGA but loses to Clemson. Could happen, but I doubt it. More likely the opposite: GT beats Clemson but loses to UGA. MY PREDICTION: Tech goes 9-3, losing to both Clemson and UGA, and also losing a third team to a team they shouldn’t have lost to. Would like to see GT make the ACC Championship game. Could make the expanded National Championship Playoff. Would have to win the ACC Championship Game to advance to that.
Looks like many self-proclaimed baseball experts will be getting their wish - Snitker is rumored to be retiring at the end of the season. Look for Harris and Albies and Murphy to have a big 2026. No more injuries. The World Series will be ours.
Watched the rest of the season 2 of Quarterback on Netflix. Joe burrow is great, but he comes off as a loner. Kirk Cousins is such a mature Christian, father, husband, friend, and teammate. So many blast him, but really the way he’s handled all this mess with the Falcons – not sure any other veteran QB could’ve handled it any better.
Ceil cooked Mexican last night. Up early to hit the gym. Finished the Bryson book and started Amy Poehler’s memoir “Yes, Please!”. Evidently I read this back in 2017, but what I have listened to so far was nothing I remembered.
So of course the Candler Park golf course reopening has been delayed. Not sure when it will reopen. Missing all these super early summer sunrise tee times.
The gang at lunch is going to Craft Burger today. Several locations have sprung up in this area: Pleasant Hill, Old Milton Parkway, Johns Creek, downtown Alpharetta, and Suwanee. Looks good, but I better pass.
Just announced: the new season 5 of Only Murders in the Building premiers on Sept 9th. Martin Short is the new host of Match Game, with Serena Gomez on the celebrity panel.
I recently stumbled across a 14 minute video of Andy Stanley addressing the State of Georgia House of Representatives, from 2022. Andy started by saying “I’m going to give y’all some advice…”. His point was that the representatives (and everyone) should follow the example of Jesus (and MLK) and try to lead from the middle, as opposed to from one extreme position or another. I will try to find the clip and send it to so.
Usually Andy speaks without notes, but probably has a teleprompter down on the stage floor. At the state capitol he referred to notes on his phone. What was good about Andy’s message was that he spoke to the challenges the representatives face, as opposed to just a generic devotional. He was introduced by state representative Wes Cantrell, an old acquaintance of mine from the GT BSU. Video: Andy Stanley addressing the Georgia State House of Representatives.
I’m spending a lot of time over training at Leo’s desk. We’re getting a lot done, because there are two of us.
Doctor follow up visit went well yesterday. No plaque buildup in my heart, which is rare for men my age. Better keep taking my vitamins.
BOB GIBSON [SABR Bio] his National League consecutive scoreless innings record was broken by Don Drysdale. Gibson had 47 consecutive innings in 1968, Drysdale had 58 the same year. On 29-Sep-1965, Gibson hit a grand slam off Gaylord Perry, the only HoF pitcher Gibson hit a home run against. Ironically, Perry’s only no-hitter came against Gibson in Gibson’s dominant 1968. Gibson’s other grand slam was against John Strohmayer on 26-Jul-1973(1). Despite a reputation as a brushback pitcher, Gibson averaged six per season, and never hit more than 13 batters in any one season. He never led the league in hit batters.
