Over the years I have gotten better about these restaurant faux pas. I worry a lot less about money than I used to. I was brought up by penny pinchers and as a college student out on my own I didn’t have much money. I started using coupons and looking for deals and it kind of carried over. I sign up for birthday clubs kind of as an adventure, to get to eat at restaurants where I might not normally go: Firebirds, Red Robin (above), Bad Daddy’s, Marlowes, Ruby Tuesday, Zaxbys, Pizza Hut, Cheeseburger Bobbys, etc.
Article: Things people do in restaurants without realizing how they come across.
1. Comparing the price of items to other things you could buy.
2. Asking for numerous substitutions.
3. Calculating the tip down to the penny.
4. How you treat your waiter (nice or rude) is likely how your waiter will treat you.
5. Overstaying at the table after the meal is finished.
6. Maximize the experience, not the value by penny pinching.
7. Plan what you’ll spend, then stop dwelling on it.
8. Assume the staff isn’t out to get you.
9. Waiters are humans. Use their names. Kindness repays kindness.
I always remember going out to eat one time years ago near Stonecrest Mall with my family after a soccer . I match. last to order, but the waiter went around the table taking orders and everyone had at least one or two special requests: water with lemon, water no ice, tea no ice, plastic cup with a straw, dressing on the side, loaded baked potato with everything on the side, extra dressing, a plain sandwich with no cheese or condiments, substitute a side item, etc etc etc. When it was my turn, I just ordered my item with no changes. When there is a large party it’s almost impossible for a server to get everything right even without all the special requests. I could almost see it coming - when the drinks and orders came out, everything wasn’t perfect, and there was a lot of complaining. Hard to have such high expectations at a Chilis. It wasn’t hard for me to take the lettuce and pickles off my burger before I ate it.
I didn’t really discover thrift stores until 1999 and used to shop them a lot more than I do now. Fun to for look for fun things, like Braves gear, etc. Something else I say is a little “adventure”. I have reached the point where I have too many clothes, sneakers, and caps. I’m gonna get more aggressive about selling off my extra sneakers.
Still catching up at work, plus a coworker was out this morning, making things busier.
Sunday: left Hilton Head while it was pouring down rain, which stopped by the time we got to I-95. I got biscuits at Wendys near Savannah. Ceil got a salad from Panera Bread in Macon when we stopped for gas.
Drove straight to Cumming to pick up Winnie, who had a good week of obedience training. She stuck her head out the window on the way home. A first for her. M picked up pizza from Mr 01 in Sandy Springs. Watched the end of the golf tourney, and a decent Hallmark Channel movie.
Monday: Pizza Hut for lunch. After work my other friend Reid was hosting a men’s taco night, which ended with a short devotional by Tommy. Sixteen in attendance. Ceil helped with the food.
My back is a little sore, so I skipped the gym yesterday and today. Man it was supposed to rain this morning, but it didn’t. I’d like to squeeze in an early AM round of golf this week if I can.
Dale Murphy’s restaurant must close due to renovations at the Cobb Galleria that will take several years to complete. He doesn’t want to stay closed that long, and is trying to find an alternate location.
A vast underwater city was discovered near the resting place of Noah's Ark.
A.I. Jesus Chatbots are preying on desperate and gullible Christians. A sign of the end times?
