Everything went Syracuse's way: blocked punt, pick six, Etienne out - and Clemson still led 27-21 against the Tiger second team. Then Clemson returned a fumble for one score, and scored another TD after a near pick six to put the game out of reach. Still some voters may jump over to the Bama bandwagon, despite Tennessee being about as good as the Orangemen. Tigers score 47 and the media asks what's wrong with Clemson. Dabo was right to take the press to task.
Tech is pathetic. Defensive end #42 jumps offsides and pressures the passer, then let's up and allows QB to throw the TD pass. Wide open BC receivers. Backs repeatedly breaking off 7-10 yard runs. Pressley the punter looks like a slob, but that's nothing new. BC could put more points on the scoreboard than Clemson. In the second quarter they were on track to do just that.
Defenders are content to chase but no one wants to tackle. Yet every year highly analytical engineering school-trained Jacket fans dismiss these countless imperfections and declare "Tech will be beat Georgia by a couple of touchdowns." All part of the embarrassment. Will Tech fans be mad at BC for beating them so bad?
Six year linebacker David Curry whiffs on the easy QB sack, and BC connects on another long gain. 17-0 Eagles. Gibbs runs a kickoff back 99 yards but it's called back for holding. Pathetic. Two plays later BC returns a GT fumble to make it 24-0. Even if it was a bad call, even if forward progress had long before stopped, Tech needs to hold on to the ball. And cut out all the penalties. Not hallmarks of good coaching.
Unsuccessful onside kick gives BC good field position. If Collins is such a good recruiter why can't he get a serviceable kicker? More missed tackles and BC scores again. 31-7. Defense jumps offsides on 4th & one. Pass interference on 3rd down. Tech leads the conference and is second in the nation with the most penalties. Tre Swilling is supposed to be so great, but what has he ever done? 34-14 at the half. People wonder why I'm not a Tech fan. THEY'RE TERRIBLE.
More of the same in the second half. Two more interceptions by the freshman but one is called back. Eagles make it 48-21 and Sims is pulled. BC came into the game averaging 66 rush yards per game, but easily passed the 200 yard mark early in the third quarter. Graham brings Tech back, threatening to draw within 2 TD's, but a holding penalty and negative yards by Gibbs quells the comeback.Tech burns their last timeout with 7:30 remaining.
Media darling Penn State trailed the entire game against lowly Indiana. Up 4 TD's, the mighty Buckeyes tacked on style points as the clock ticked down. Anything to justify a high ranking. The coach made excuses. They'll earn their birth in the playoff and lose again.
Trevor Lawrence better watch out. With pedestrian numbers against Syracuse and teammate Etienne siphoning off votes, the media might just award Justin Fields the Heisman Trophy. That would be a travesty, but stranger things have happened. You heard it here first.
The team everyone's been talking about - Kentucky - lost to lowly Missouri.
Bama beat Tennessee but lost their best weapon: receiver/returner Waddle. Auburn survived another scare, winning by the skin of their teeth.
