Monday: bad reports from Athens. Barney wasn't getting better. Wouldn't eat. The vets had been trying to wean him off the meds so he could go home, but he didn't respond to the treatments. We went to Athens this afternoon. Anna went with us. Pretty sad right now. I remember being with Speedle when he died. I sobbed. Hard to write this.
Some friends are dog people and understand, others not so much. Last night at small group new member Ron shared how his family’s dog of 13 years passed away earlier this year, shortly after their two sons had returned home for the covid quarantine. It was such a deep emotional experience that Ron isn’t sure he’s ready to get another dog yet.
Ceil was pretty quiet last night. This morning she cancelled her trip to the YMCA. I was leaving at noon to go vote, but left earlier. Ceil is already talking about getting a puppy. Shoot W&MC are thinking about getting a second dog, same breed as the first. I’d like to wait a few weeks or months. More tomorrow.
The Braves didn’t let me down. Do your kid let you down? The Braves are like family. I will love them in the good and bad. Those idiots who say they choked say only losers give excuses, like how losing Soroka and Hamels and Hernandez and Folty and Newcomb and Puig didn’t matter when the Braves were up 2-0 and 3-1 in the NLCS against the best team in baseball. Didn’t matter that Duvall went down. Didn’t matter the game four win was a fluke. Didn’t matter we didn’t have anyone to pitch game five. Not excuses but reasons.
Well I say all that made the NLCS gravy. Any of those idiots who expected a World Series run should’ve tempered their expectations after all but one of the starting rotation went down. This historic 2020 playoff run was gravy. Don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. Those guys need to go back to their cave.
After Mookie Betts’ robbed Freddie Freeman of a home run, the Braves first baseman went back in the dugout and chugged red liquid from a plastic bottle. Reminded me of Michael Jordan’s secret stuff from the movie Space Jam.
