Same Old Tech

Same old story for Tech – close but no cigar. The Jackets are 3-6 with 5-4 Boston College, #7 Notre Dame, and #1 UGA on their schedule. Despite what some Tech fans will say, there’s a zero chance they’ll become bowl eligible. In fact I’m reading some discouraging posts from the normally upbeat Tech faithful, even before Saturday’s loss. In Coral Gables Tech led after three quarters, but could not close the deal.

Stetson reclaimed his spot atop the ESPN Total QB Rankings, though he still doesn’t quite qualify to be ranked. Throwing touchdowns on the first play of UGA possessions isn’t giving him enough action plays to qualify. JT Daniels would rank third if he qualified. I love how Stetson isn’t afraid to cut the ball loose, the total opposite of Clemson QB DJ Ukulele. Stetson’s deep ball does seem to hang up in the air, unlike JT’s stronger throws. Stetson is by far the more elusive runner.

0. 89.5 Stetson Bennett UGA

1. 87.9 CJ Stroud OK State

2. 86.6 Bryce Young Alabama

3. 86.4 Kenny Pickett Pitt

3. 86.4 JT Daniels UGA

6. 83.2 Matt Corral Ole Miss

11. 78.3 Sam Howell UNC

12. 78.0 Hendon Hooker Tennessee

46. 67.7 Bo Nix Auburn

80. 54.5 Jeff Sims Georgia Tech

98. 43.7 DJ Uiagalelei Clemson

Missouri joined Kentucky in calling time outs at the end of the game, in an effort to score a touchdown against Georgia.

Tennessee edged Kentucky, meaning the Vols will have the big head when the Dawgs roll into Knoxville this Saturday.

Clemson@Louisville:  Lots of mistakes by both teams. Clemson was lucky to win.

Florida lost bad to South Carolina. Is Dan Mullen losing control? Coaching is tough.

Auburn lost. Bama struggled. LSU came to play. Undefeateds Michigan State and Wake Forest lost. Sparty’s loss hurt the Heisman candidacy of running back Kenneth Walker, who still ranks high on my all-important list.

My Heisman picks:

1. Kenny Pickett Pitt QB

2. Jordan Davis UGA nose tackle

3. Kenneth Walker Michigan State RB

4. Stetson Bennett UGA QB

I’m still not won over by Sam Howell or Matt Corral, who’d rather run than throw. Bryce Young hasn’t had a Heisman moment, and might not until December or January. Pickett has stood out from the rest of the QB’s. Jordan Davis may not have flashy stats, but he clogs up the middle and makes the plays despite double and triple teams – far more than any player on a top team.

1200 UConn at Clemson

0330 Georgia at Tennessee

0330 Georgia Tech at Boston College. According to the internet, Tech is favored to beat BC in Boston. We shall see.

Falcons@Saints. Lots of mistakes. These guys are supposed to be professionals. If I made critical errors like that, I would be out of a job. I thought no way the Birds could blow that big of a fourth quarter lead, but poor play calls and stupid penalties gave the Saints and their novice QB the lead. Everyone blamed QB Matt Ryan but he’s the least of their problems.

JOE DiMAGGIO  [SABR Bio] played in ten World Series, nine times on the winning side. The Yankees won in 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1947, 1949 & 1951 & lost in 1942. At age 18 Joe set a Pacific Coast League record that still stands. He hit safely in 61 straight games for the 1933 San Francisco Seals during their 190 game schedule. According to a popular ditty in Boston, he was not even the best player in his family. The New England chant went “Who is better than his brother Joe? - Dominic DiMaggio!”

Denison: ISIS now poses a growing threat to the new Taliban government in Afghanistan…Police in Northern Virginia stepped up their presence in response to ISIS threats against malls and shopping centers outside the US capital...America's suicide rate is now tied with the 1930s Great Depression as the worst in history. However, physician Matthew Sleeth notes that "without modern medicine and trauma systems, our suicide rate would be 200-300 times higher" He observes, "Perhaps it is time society faces the reality that what we are doing is not working." …American Christians are not facing the persecution our sisters and brothers face in Malaysia and China however we are facing rising opposition to biblical truth and morality on a level unprecedented in US history…More Americans consider biblical truth outdated, biblical morality irrelevant, biblical witness oppressive, and biblical faith "homophobic" and dangerous. People deserve to know what we believe, why we believe it, and why they should believe it as well. We are called to "always being prepared to make a defense to anyone who asks you for a reason for the hope that is in you" (1 Peter 3:15).
