Watching a football game is like watching politics, social media, or anything else. Two people can watch the same game and see two different things. One may have not heard what really happened before getting on the internet and voicing their opinion.
An old Tech bud went off the deep end complaining about UGA and the refs. At some point protesting too much is just sour grapes, being a sore loser. Tech fans pointing fingers at the UGA@Auburn game conveniently forgot about how just last week the Jackets owe their win over Wake Forest to poor officiating.
AUBURN: those saying the ball broke the goal line before fumbling didn’t have the benefit of the replays seen by the officials, how the ball was already moving due to an initial hit by a UGA defender before the second defender knocked the ball loose. Who dives into the line of scrimmage with both hands on the tip of the football?
Even if Auburn had been awarded a touchdown on the play to go up 17-0, they were still outscored 20-0 the rest of the way.
Those screaming about Kirby ‘s phantom time out only had announcer Sean McDonough’s guess as to what was going on. By Sunday morning the facts were widespread: Kirby was complaining about Auburn defenders mimicking the snap count, illegally clapping before the snap. Since Kirby was correct, the officials didn’t charge Georgia the timeout. This happened on a drive that UGA didn’t score on, so the whole thing didn’t change the outcome of the game.
Nothing was said about Auburn taking their time making substitutions, defenders meandering on and off the field while the referee had play stopped because UGA had substituted, the play clock counting down to zero.
Auburn was penalized 11 times, to only 6 for UGA. Did the refs “give the game” to Georgia? The game was poorly officiated, for sure. But the War Eagles are just an undisciplined team, committing 9 penalties against Baylor, 8 vs Ball State, ten vs the Aggies, and 13 vs Oklahoma.
Tech fans should want Georgia to win all their games, so that when Tech plays Georgia the Jackets will be knocking off a higher ranked team – right? Tech already faces an uphill battle to make the College Football Playoff, as the committee considers the ACC to be weaker than the SEC and Big Ten.
TECH: just before the half the reception was ruled down at the one yard line. Tech hustled to the line. Should’ve called for a replay - looked like a TD. The QB sneak looked like a TD but VT was offsides. Why couldn’t Tech take the play? Then King was thrown for a loss from the shotgun. Should’ve been under center. then another TD was called back for holding. Had to settle for a field goal. 21-7 at the half.
CLEMSON: maybe it was the orange pants, which they previously only wore when a championship was on the line. There is a trophy that goes to the winner of the game. I thought that maybe Clemson had to win to avoid being mathematically eliminated for the college football playoff.
But the Tigers won easily, the game firmly in hand before senior QB Cade Klubnik fell victim to a sprained ankle. Finally got the see the backup QB.
TEXAS: will all those so called experts who jumped off the Arch Manning bandwagon now jump back on it? Just when the media (and me) were ready to bury the Longhorns, young Manning leads Texas to a close win over their arch rival. His QBR continues to rise.
OHIO STATE ILLINOIS: see where the Illini punter took a knee to field the low snap – and the lay was whistled dead?
