Snitker Steps Down

69 year old Brian Snitker stepped down as Braves manager today. The Braves awarded him with a position in the front office, a trip to Hawaii, a new truck, and a place in the Braves Hall of Fame for his 49 year career. All richly deserved.

Snit was from Macon, Illinois. He was featured in a bestselling Hoosiers-like book about his high school baseball team: One Shot at Forever: A Small Town, an Unlikely Coach, and a Magical Baseball Season, by Sports Illustrated's Chris Ballard. The book is being made into a movie.

Will the next Braves manager be considered successful if he wins 6 straight division championships in his first ten years? Makes the playoffs 7 straight years, in his first ten seasons? Wins a World Series? Snit was a man outstanding in his field.

In the past ten years, eight different teams have won the World Series. Only the Dodgers and Astros have won twice. The Braves and Dodgers are the only two MLB teams to win 6 straight division championships in the past 10 years. Only LA, Houston, and Atlanta have gone to the playoffs for 7 straight years, out of the last ten. Seven teams have made the playoffs 7 times in the past ten years: Atlanta, LA, the Yankees, Astros, Cardinals, Boston, and Tampa.

Who will the Braves find as a replacement? Ron Washington is too old, but it would be great to have him back as a coach. Walt Weiss has more experience than Eddie Perez. Not sure how the Braves could hire Mark DeRosa, who is never wrong as long as he remains safe behind his desk at the MLB Network. My other choices: David Ross, Brian McCann, or Travis d’Arnald.

Max Fried’s pitch count on Tuesday was indeed 102 pitches. Braves fans need to get over his leaving. New York way overpaid to sign him. This is the first postseason (so far) where he has yet to struggle with an injury, tired arm, or blisters in several years. Plus the Braves have too many starting pitchers as it is: Sale, Strider, Schwellenbach, Smith Schuster, and 2 or 3 others. Plus Fried’s name doesn’t start with an S.

What NIL and the transfer portal has done is to weaken teams like UGA and Clemson and FSU, and strengthen teams like Tech and even Wake Forest. The good teams just aren’t as deep on the O line and defense.

Last night while watching prime time network television an advertisement came on for a company that helps recent college graduates paying off student loans. Not sure if that was a good idea or not. But the spokesperson was Sophie Cunningham.

The last Life Boat was very good. Liked how at the end they told what happened to the characters in the years after the incident. Also the info about what events the book was based on.

Currently listening to The Amber Room, by Steve Berry. I have listened to several of his novels. Many have ties to Atlanta, like this one. This one does not involve his longtime featured cast of characters, including leading man Cotton Malone. The Amber Room was Berry's debut novel, which may explain the sex scenes that aren't a part of Berry's later works.

Next up will be Charles Duhigg’s audiobook “Supercommunicators: How to Unlock the Secret Language of Connection”.

Tuesday: Ceil liked the turkey meatloaf so much that we had the leftovers for supper last night. I think she was cleaning out the fridge. We also had corn on the cob, spinach, cole slaw, and the leftover potatoes. There were leftover grilled vegetables waiting in the wings, but she didn’t warm them up.

Wednesday: up early to hit the gym this morning.

Is it wrong to want low taxes so you can keep your money and pass it on to your kids?

The magazine Christianity Today accepted millions from abortion and trans funders. Kinda explains several of the liberal stances they’ve taken lately.

DICK GROAT [SABR Bio] was the first basketball player from Duke University to have his jersey number 10 retired. It hangs from the rafters of Cameron Indoor Stadium. Groat played for the Pirates win they won the World Series in 1960. They had last won in 1924. He played 161 games for STL in 1964 when they beat the Yankees. The Cardinals previous championship had been in 1946. On 13-May-1960 in Milwaukee, Groat overwhelmed Braves pitching with 6 hits, 3 doubles, 2 runs, and 9 total bases in 9 innings.
