Game For the Ages

Last Friday night Ohtani had another game for the ages. For the youngsters calling him the best ever, remember that Babe Ruth still holds several World Series pitching and hitting records that have stood for almost 100 years. Only player to hit three home runs in more then one World Series game. Ruth’s 26-2/3 record streak of scoreless innings pitched wasn’t broken for over 40 seasons. The Babe hit 300 in the most World Series. Ruth’s record for most strikeouts by a pitcher was finally broken by John Smoltz. I think.

Friday night our Sunday School class served dinner at the Kennesaw State International Student Fellowship. Ceil made beef stew that everyone raved about. I’d been worried the internationals would be vegetarians.

Rush hour traffic was heavy due to I-75 being shut down both ways at Delk Road, but I didn’t complain on social media about it. The GPS took us an odd route that saved us tons of time. Others weren’t so lucky.

Lots of international students in attendance, plus 30 from our class helping out, including Jamie & Elisa, Jim, and Kaitlin (above). The discussion question was “If you could ask God one question, what would it be?”

Saturday: early AM golf. Teed off at 7:05.
1. Two decent 7 irons off the tee, only because it’s an elevated tee. I’ve got to get the ball up in the air. Then two nice long fairway shots up close to the green. Hit 2 good chips out of three. Decent lag putt. A best ball par (BBP).
2. Decent mulligan. One passable chip out of three. Best ball bogey (BBB).
3. Hit what felt like a good tee shot, but I didn’t see where the ball went. Pulled my mulligan (my last light up ball) into the woods, but I was able to fish it out. I moved on to the next hole, after snapping this picture.

4. Passable tee shot. Better mulligan, but it get knocked down by a tree branch. Then I hit four good chips, all onto the green. Four good lag putts. Bogey.
5. Three poor tee shots. Four poor chips, none onto the green. Then a cruddy looking chip rolled close to the hole. BBB.
6. Hit driver. Crushed one, but it was slightly left and was knocked down by the brush. The other two sliced right, though one landed past the large oak. Hit 2 good fairway shots out of three. Only hit one good chip out of three. Several good lag putts. BBB.
7. Hit driver, and all three were above average. One was my best drive ever on this hole. Hit one of three approach shots to the fringe. Four decent chips, but none close. Good lags. BBB.
8. Hit driver. Both were good. Then four good chips. Good lag putts. BBP.
9. Didn’t realize I was hitting a 3 wood off the tee. All three tee shots felt good, but I only found one, in the middle of the fairway. Poor chip but I chipped the mulligan close. Sank the 6 foot putt for a super rare BBP. Finished at 8:40 am.

Ate lunch Saturday at the East Cobb Taqueria Tsunami with Rob and my other friend Reid. I pecked out a super long email on my phone while watching the games. Took several hours. I just kept pecking away while I was watching the games.

In Sunday School the discussion was on learning and spending time with people from other generations, looking forward to the day when JFBC combines the traditional worship service with the modern services so people of all ages can worship under one roof. Supposedly the orchestra and choir will remain. Every now and then the modern service has a “choir” – but instead of a choir with everyone focused on the director, this modern choir has everyone doing their own thing, rocking around and moving their arms and heads, looking up and all around. That may be how those individuals may worship, but up on a stage it sometimes seems like they are just drawing attention to themselves.

So anyway in Sunday School the question was how has a relationship with someone from a different generation impacted your life, and I shared what a blessing my friendship with Reid has been all these years. Matched my green shirt with my green trimmed Stan Smiths. Daniel Kim would've been proud.

Sunday afternoon Ceil went down to help with the girlies. W&MC are leaving on a trip to California this week. I went out and got four free items: a slice of pizza and two soft drinks from RaceTrac, plus a ice cream from Freddy’s.
