Police Blotter

Hear about the shooting at Peachtree Battle? Anna lives on Piedmont across from Morningside Baptist, about a mile away as the crow flies. She says they avoid Buckhead and go other places like Decatur or the Westside or Krog Street. C would like to move back to be closer to the kids.

I worked past 5:30 last night. Since our kitchen floor is a construction zone, Ceil and I ate out at Moxie Burger. C was famished, she had forgotten to eat lunch. She ate a whole chicken sandwich and a salad. My grilled chicken sandwich was huge, We skipped the fries this time.

This was at the Roswell Square / Roswell Mill. They had just brought out our food, when a young lady came in the door, saying two cars in the dark parking lot had been broken into. Who drives a Rav-4, she asked. I went outside with her and turned right, toward our white Rav-4. The girl pointed left, saying it was the dark grey Rav-4 to the left with the broken window. Relief! I checked my car before going back inside to eat.

Didn't get much work done again today. Got all my work piled up, plus two other projects to fix other people's problems. Getting calls and emails about my mom. Had a conference call with my siblings for over an hour. I had a 4 pm appointment in Sandy Springs.

Christian McCaffrey has averaged 115 yards from scrimmage per game since 2017. When I have time I'll have to compare him to Herschel.

News: a family fight after funeral leads to deadly stabbing, according to police.

WES WESTRUM  [SABR Bio] appears on the cover of Sport Illustrated's first issue. Batting is Eddie Mathews and umpire Augie Donatelli behind the plate in Milwaukee County Stadium. There are several thousand additional people in that shot, but it has been tough to confirm or deny their attendance that day. Westrum later managed and coached the only team he had played for in the majors. He played for NYG 1947-57, coached SFG 1958-63, 68-71. Westrum was the Mets manager between Casey Stengel (1962-65) and Salty Parker (1967).

Denison: an American intelligence official estimated Tuesday that al Qaeda could begin to threaten the US within one to two years. The next terrorist assault on our country is likely to be a cyberattack. A solar storm could cause an "internet apocalypse," affecting much of society for weeks or months at a time. But Harvard psychologist Steven Pinker cites compelling research to show that by almost every metric of human wellbeing, the world is getting better—from war, violence, and poverty (all declining) to health, wealth, happiness, and equality (all improving). Yet C. S. Lewis noted, "It is pride which has been the chief cause of misery in every nation and every family since the world began." Thomas A. Tarrants of the C. S. Lewis Institute adds: "Augustine and Aquinas both taught that pride was the root of sin. Likewise, Calvin, Luther, and many others.

Havng a hard time scheduling a date for the funeral. No date will be perfect for everyone. A date just needs to be set. There is talk of putting it off until after October 4th. I submitted my dad's obit two days after he died, and it was on the internet that afternoon, a week before the funeral. No matter how long I worked on it, it was never going to be perfect. I was digging up more details weeks after the funeral.
