Who do you want on the mound in game 7 of the World Series? I know you’re not a stats guy, and neither are most of the people on social media. But here’s the stats.
Randy Johnson only appeared in one World Series, but he made the most of it. Won three games, the last pitcher to do so. Pitched in less than half the World Series innings as Smoltz or Greg Maddux, who own the lowest playoff ERAs of the pitchers below.

W&MC took the girls to Tuesday night‘s Braves game, a 3-0 victory over the Rockies. Charles Norman and son Peter joined them. Chris Sale pitched another gem, and notched his 200th strikeout of the season – the first lefthander in franchise history to reach that total. On the way to the game Shivonne asked if I would be there with them. Unfortunately I had small group.
Crazy busy at work. One of my helpers was out this week, plus two other team members were out on Tuesday.
Tuesday: stopped by the house after work yesterday and grilled up chicken quesadillas. Then to small group.
Wednesday: worked out at the gym this morning.
DIZZY DEAN [SABR Bio] appeared on the cover of the 15-Apr-1935 issue of Time magazine. They got his middle name wrong on the cover: “Herman” instead of “Hanna”. He is the last National League pitcher to win thirty games in a season. His record in 1934 was 30-7, and was named NL MVP. He is the only pitcher to get two hits in one inning in the World Series. In the 3rd inning of Game 7 of the 1934 WS, Dean had hits off DET’s Elden Auker and Elon Hogsett, a double and single.
