Oat Milkers Game

Left at 1:30 for the drive east to Gwinnett. Arrived at 3 pm and was surprised there wasn't more people lining up for the mascot bobblehead. The Braves had a home game at Truist Park and Rome had a Schwellenbach bobblehead giveaway and it was Easter weekend, so the line was shorter than normal.

Former coworker Chris pulled up and parked right next to me, so we hung out together in line. As we waited I unsuccessfully attempted to pull up my game ticket. Couldn't find it on my phone anywhere. Finally had to go buy a ticket at the box office. Gales opened and we went inside. I spoke to collector Jay Tripp (above) and my friend Johnny Tallant. Finally found my ticket, so I took my bobble to my car and returned to get another.

Before the game I was able to sell an extra Button Gwinnett jersey and two old bobbleheads on Facebook, and coordinated the meetup there before the game. Later I sold both the Chopper bobbleheads, so I came out about $81.00 ahead for the day.

Nita and Brad arrived, and we walked over toward the right field area of the stands. Eventually it was time to go down for the pregame parade. There weren't many participants around, and the young Stripers employee was dismayed. I quickly texted my friend Chris to join us. When he came jogging up with his three young kids, the employee felt a little better.

It was my first time down on the field there at CoolRay Field. Nita and Brad seemed to enjoy the experience. We circumnavigated the warning track counterclockwise. As we walked past the jumbotron we could see ourselves on the big screen, so I snapped a picture.

Took a few extra pictures along the way, including in front of Tommie Aaron's retired #23 (below).

As we neared the stands I realized the fans were giving us an extended ovation, that went on and on and continued until our little band completed the long slow journey. Along the way I gave out high fives to a few boys.

Since our seats were down the right field line, before the game started I made a quick trip back to my car to grab my ball glove. During the game, one line drive did fly right over our heads. I wasn't able to track it until it was too late. The ball rattled around the empty seats in the row behind us. Nita and I were near the ball, but a boy from the parade grabbed it first .A boy in front of us was also able to grab a foul ball, but not us.

The Gwinnett Stripers have like 7 different uniforms: home pinstripes, road greys, green alternate jerseys, throwback fish sleeves, Xolos alternate uniforms, Atlanta Black Crackers jerseys and caps (below), and minor league baseball's promotional Oat Milkers jerseys and caps. Braves are limited to five: home whites, road greys, road navy, Friday red jerseys, and the City Connects.

More on the Oat Milkers. Might've been the only time this year those jerseys will be worn.

Got to talk to my friend Hugh, who came to the game with Johnny and his daughter. Hugh usually brings his baseball glove to the games. Since he didn't, I had to take up his slack. The Braves top draft pick was the starting pitcher.

On the way home I stopped by Wendys. Got home at 10 pm and helped C prepare for Easter. Broke out my Puma RSX high tops to wear, for the first time in several months. Got them up for sale if anyone's interested.
