Stick With Love

Friday I noticed my Grisham library loan was about to expire, and I had four hours of listening to go. I usually only listen in the car, but was able to finish “A Time For Mercy” over the weekend. Checked out two new books, including Alex Trebek’s autobiography “The Answer Is.” The audiobook is read by Jeopardy grand champion Ken Jennings. Trebek grew up in Canada, attending a French-speaking Catholic school. Sophomore year he almost got kicked out of his boarding school in Toronto. In high school he played hockey against legendary NHL hall-of-famer Phil Esposito.

The AFC & NFC Championship Games will be this coming Sunday

3:05 pm Tampa@Packers on Fox

6:40 pm Bills@Chiefs on CBS

I tried to have a restful weekend. Friday night Ceil cooked chili and tossed a salad. We watched a Kelly Martin movie “Dear Viola.” Also Jeopardy.

Worked upstairs Saturday morning. Ceil fixed an eggy boy sandwich.
Later I did laundry and cleaned the kitchen. Ceil continued to organize her new studio, and we cleaned out some of the clutter in the dining room. I fixed quesadillas for lunch. Later I drove C to Costco. Dropped her off and swung by Goodwill. Later I dropped her off at Whole Foods. We wound up eating leftover chili for supper. Watched the Alicia Witt movie Backyard Wedding.

Sunday Ceil was listening to Louie Giglio preach, so we missed Sunday School. Cheesy grits for breakfast, C went for a walk with her friends. I took a nap.
For supper Ceil baked a chicken and potatoes, with English peas. Watched the JK Simmons movie The Bachelors.

Watched a little Browns@Chiefs and the end of the Bucs@Saints. At the end of Tom Brady’s postgame interview he took time to say hello to his parents, sisters, wife, and kids. Later he tossed the football with Drew Brees' kids.

My company did work today, though my big customer did not. Tried to get a bunch of work done. Small group tonight. May take Anna out to eat Tuesday night. Maybe Matthew as well. Wednesday I drive down to Macon. Gonna be a long day.

Heard a rumor that at the end of each day Publix may have leftover vaccines they have to either give out or throw away, if they have no-show appointments. I may try to check that out. I did check on the Cobb County website, but its still for 65 and older.

ART SHAMSKY [SABR Bio] a former Missouri Tiger, is the only player is major league history to hit three home runs in a game he did not start. On 12-Aug-1966, he replaced relief pitcher Joe Nuxhall in a double switch in the 8th inning to play LF. He homered in the 8th off Al McBean, in the 10th off Roy Face, and in the 11th off Billy O’Dell. (Two days later, also in a G he didn’t start, Shamsky homered in his first at bat off Vern Law, thereby tying a major league record of four home runs in four straight plate appearances). He played on two nascent dynasties: played for CIN with Bench, Rose, Perez and Gary Nolan, and then against them at the end of his career w/OAK whose notable teammates were Reggie Jackson, Catfish Hunter, Joe Rudi, Rollie Fingers, et al. Shamsky roomed with Hit King Pete Rose in the minors on the Geneva Redlegs of the New York–Penn League In 1960. Shamsky was the manager of the Modi'in Miracle in 2007, first season of the Israel Baseball LeagueDuring the league’s inaugural draft in 2007, Shamsky selected Sandy Koufax, then 71, as the last player chosen by the Miracle.

Several months ago a friend from SPdL told me a couple of our old SPdL friends had blocked him because of his outspoken political views. This weekend I looked to see if the same people had unfriended other good friends from the past that also had opposing views. I was grieved to see they had. I try to listen to people from both sides of the aisle. If I’m not strong enough to hear opposing political views, perhaps I need to question my own views and beliefs (which I try to do, regularly).

A new study shows that “mindfulness” isn’t as great as people thought it was. No suggestion of prayer, which has worked for centuries.

Tomorrow night’s Mega Millions drawing a $850 million. Way too much for one person. I’d set Anna up with her own graphic design firm, selling t-shirts and other apparel M and C could work there if they’d like.
