Bunts

Pache wearing his pants legs at a rare mid length.

Glad my TV doesn't get many Braves games. I have been keeping up on my phone. Surely the Braves can't wait to get rid of Ender and his contract. Kinda like Otis Nixon. Otis could lay down a bunt, but not softly enough to often beat it out.

Mitchell & Ness is selling $400.00 "Home Run Derby" shorts, though the script "Atlanta" came after the Braves ditched the royal jerseys. I suppose M&N wanted to cancel the team name.

Busy Monday. Rough afternoon. Worked from before 8 am past 5:30 pm. Zoom meeting lasted from before 4 until after five. Hustled over to small group. A good discussion on several topics. Was after 8:30 pm when I got home. In the rush last night I didn't eat supper. Didn't have time and wasn't really hungry.  I could stand to skip a few meals. Had a late morning chicken salad sandwich, then another for a late lunch. Working from home today.

I'm hearing a developer is trying to add 35 townhomes in Garden Hills. The neighborhood association is against the proposal, but the developer doesn't care, he wants to make his money no matter what it does to the neighborhood. Not sure exactly where in Garden Hills. It was a short news item on the radio.

M had an interview for a prep cook job over on the Westside. He thinks he'd like that better than what he did at Beetlecat.

Being old school, I've never been a fan of punters from Australia. Perhaps UGA signee Brett Thorson will change my mind.

LARRY DOBY  [SABR Bio] was the first black player to hit a home run in a World Series game, in G #4 1948. He once lost a home run on account of darkness (he must've knocked the daylights out of it), on 28-Aug-1949. In his career, he was a teammate of Al Kaline, Jim Bunning, Eddie Yost, Monte Irvin, Billy Hunter and Don Newcombe. Doby played 18 games for DET in 1959. So did Kaline, Bunning & Yost. Doby played with Irvin on the 1942 Newark Eagles (six future HOFers!, with Hunter on the 1959 San Diego Padres of the PCL and with Newcombe on the 1944 Brooklyn Eagles (and the 1962 Chunichi Dragons.

LARRY WALKER  [SABR Bio] is the only NL player to hit .350 or better four times since Tony Gwynn did it. Walker hit .366 in 1997, .363 in 1998, .379 in 1999 & .350 in 2001. Gwynn did it seven times, including five straight. Ichiro Suzuki also hit .350 or better four times in MLB. In 1999 as a Colorado Rockie, Walker led not just his league, but the majors in batting average, on-base percentage, slugging and OPS only to finish tenth in MVP voting. Chipper Jones won the NL MVP in a landslide as his Braves won another pennant. Walker didn't play baseball in high school or college, but he was voted MVP of his local men's' adult softball league at the tender age of 16. Baseball wasn't offered at his high school, and he didn't attend any institute of higher learning. He was keen on hockey right up until he wasn't.

Drinking coffee every day could have devastating effects on your brain. With all the soft drinks and artificial sweeteners I suck down, I'm not really one to talk.
