It's a Jungle Out There

Man yesterday I wore myself out. Work. Winnie. Laundry. Dishes. Cleaning up. Finished season three of The Kominsky Method. Ceil got home so we took Winnie to eat on the deck at Moxie Burger, overlooking Roswell Mill. Chicken sandwich and fries. I was so worn out that I skipped my usual water and went straight to the hard stuff: a soft drink. Kinda like when Tarzan swung home and asked Jane for a martini because it’s a jungle out there.

Came home and went to bed early. So much going on. Like Denison’s column today, so many people wearing themselves out. At church people appear to be holding it all together, but so many of us are at the end of our rope on the inside. No shame in that. Gotta trust in God but no one said it would be easy.

Denison: Katherine Wasson, writing that "none survive or flourish without the help of others." The myth that we can do what we want and no one can tell us otherwise continues to endanger us. Reinforce the fact that freedoms come with correlative responsibilities and obligations, and reaffirm our mutual commitment to the common good. This is deeply biblical. We were created for community (Genesis 2:18) by a triune God who experiences community within himself. We show that we love our Lord by loving our neighbor (cf. Matthew 22:37–39) with acts of sacrificial service (1 Peter 4:10).

Winnie likes to go outside, walk up to the end of the driveway, and sit and look around. Or go to the grass and lay down, and just enjoy being outside. She did good at the restaurant deck. Sitting there looking around. One time there on the deck she saw a squirrel, and stood up, interested. She was quiet the whole time. I think the squirrel comes around often to beg, but not when dogs are around.

On the way to work this morning I stopped by McDonalds. Seemed to be a special on their “new” chicken biscuit. It was okay, but you could tell it was mass-produced and pre-frozen, not fresh like Chickfila. Still amazes me how on social media people HATE Chickfila because they think they support anti-gay organizations, when in fact that’s not the case at all. Meanwhile Burger King pokes fun at Chickfila, advertising that BK is open on Sundays, and making a big deal out of donating for one whole month (while paying their employees peanuts). No wonder BK service is so bad.

Everyone says Austin Riley should be an all-star. Same with Albies. Hot take: might be good if Riley got to rest those four days. Tough for everyone to get named to the all star team because there’s always losing teams that need a player named to the team, and their best player happens to be a third baseman like Riley. So every year several deserving players get left off. Then the All Star manager has to try and get everyone in the game, except maybe a backup catcher. Back in the day the greats like Aaron and Mays played all nine innings, so there must’ve been a bunch of players who never got in the all star game.

Some say Smyly is a better reliever than starter. They got that kid starting with the striped socks, that throws strikes. Also Fried, Ian Anderson, and Morton and that fuzzy haired kid Bryce Wilson. There’s your five. Put Smyly in the pen. The GM is brining in a new pitcher every week, so he’s trying. But they need to let the starters stay in longer.

It’s a real hassle to leave work early, park, walk to the gate in time to fight the crowds for a bobblehead these days. Hopefully I’ll be fortunate enough to secure eight Braves bobbles given away this year: the MVFree, Acuna & Abies Braves Win connecting bobbles, Fried, Soroka, McCann, d’Arnaud, and Albies Los Bravos bobble. On Sunday August first the Braves are giving away three different Aaron bobbles, one per ticket. Might have to break down and go to that game. But then again, no.

I need to start wearing a Braves shirt every day, so each shirt can be worn once a month. Man I have a lot of shirts.
