Tiger Cub

See any of the golf tourney on TV? Fathers and sons/grandsons. Justin Thomas, Trevino, Singh, Kuchar, John Daly, David Duval, Gary Player, Tiger Woods, Mark O’Meara, Annika, Furyk, and others. Eleven year old Charlie Woods stole the show, making eagles and birdies without the help of his father. Charlie was the youngest-ever competitor at the event. The Woods finished 20 under par, five shots behind Justin Thomas and his father, who won. Gotta get me some of that Charlie Woods golf apparel.

The last 10-0 team to enter a game as a ten point underdog was Notre Dame in the College Football Playoff game in January 2019. Clemson won 30-3. Saturday Clemson was favored by ten and won 34-10. For their New Year’s matchup, Alabama opened as a 20 point favorite over Notre Dame.

Fans complain when coaches and players answer questions with clichés. But when a coach comes along and instead answers the questions with well thought out replies, using the opportunity to best promote his team, school, and players - fans dislike that as well. What do they want - clichés? Texas A&M wins 7 straight SEC games, losing only one game all year, to #1 Alabama. Their coach is asked if he thinks the Aggies belong in the playoff. WHAT IS HE SUPPOSED TO SAY? Yet he is criticized for his answer.

Fans are clamoring for the Falcons to draft QB Justin Fields, despite his struggles this season against powerhouses like Indiana and Northwestern. I’ve been wrong before about college QBs succeeding in the pros. Redskin QB Dawne Haskins was great at Ohio State, as were several other Buckeye QBs before him. How many made it in the pros? Haskins has struggled to adjust to the NFL, once missing an assignment while talking to fans in the stands.

Bama vs Clemson would be a great game. The Tide has one of their best offenses ever, but their defense is perhaps less formidable than previous years. I’m not sure this is the best Clemson team ever, but they seem to be peaking at the right time. Bama could blow out Notre Dame worse than Clemson did. Hopefully the Tigers can decisively trounce Ohio State, setting up a great national championship game. Remember this: historically Heisman Trophy winners haven’t performed well in postseason games.

I took off Thursday afternoon. Met C in Roswell to test drive a Honda. We hadn’t seen it before, and could tell the price had been lowered due to wear and tear. Plus it was a base model without many of the newer safety features. I knew there was a newer Honda out past Six Flags, so we drove straight over there. Ceil found a Toyota she liked instead.

Friday: left work at 11:45 am. Was pretty much on the go ever since. Got home at 6:45. Just sat down. At the car dealership I realized I’d left my laptop computer at work in Norcross. Wasn’t wanting to go back there until Monday. Got a coworker to bring it and meet me at the Super Target in Roswell near Claire’s.

Friday night Ceil cooked BBQ chicken. Also potatoes and broccoli. I was out from the car buying experience.

Saturday morning we drove down to pick up the Christmas cards from Anna at her store at Ansley Mall. Then drove to Westside for Ceil. Then Howell Mill to 75 to 85 to North Druid Hills. Didn’t realize NDH went all the way to Ponce de Leon. Ceil picked up some things from Dekalb Farmers Market. Watched golf, then NotreDame@Clemson then Florida@Alabama. Addressed all the Christmas cards. Added one deserving soul to the list this year.

On line Sunday School. Grits and an eggy boy. Watched the first half of Tampa@Falcons, then golf. Later some Chiefs@Saints and Browns@Giants.

Watched the Garth Brooks live acoustic Christmas performance on CBS, with his wife Trisha Yearwood (Jeff’s cousin). Little Drummer Boy and other songs about Jesus, God, praying, and thanksgiving. Silent Night. They took requests from people over the internet. Garth and Tricia hosted a live benefit back in April to raise money for those on the front lines of the pandemic.

Jeff Yearwood’s father passed away last week, down in his hometown of Concord south of Griffin.

Sounds like Georgia isn’t getting as many vaccines to start with as originally planned. I'm not holding my breath. Saw where Debra Light Painter got vaccinated. She works at Emory Healthcare.
