Emotions

Finishing up Brene Brown’s “Atlas of the Heart: Mapping meaningful Connection and the Language of Human Experiencewhere she lists and explains all human emotions. Her thinking is that the more in touch we can be with the emotions that er are experiencing, the more enriching life we can lead, and the more we can know how to connect with others as they experience various emotions.

When asked to list the emotions they experience, many can only think of only two or three – usually happy, sad, and angry. Brene describes 87 emotions: far too many to list here. I highly recommend Atlas of the Heart, and know several who should read it.

Clemson struggled big time against McNeese State. You watch this ? Tigers set a NCAA tourney record for fewest points scored in a half, with 13. Lang said he turned the channel to TrueTV to watch the show Impractical Jokers, but instead there was some basketball game on. I told him that Clemson was playing like Impractical Jokers.

Small group: discussion was great as usual, but I was distracted. A friend had shared some devastating news. So much evil in the world in the world today. So many bad things going on. My little problems pale in comparison. I am so blessed, and need to be much more grateful.

Twice a year JFBC has a men’s dinner where they bring in a speaker, but they always take breaks during the speech for the guys to discuss around the table. Not sure how crazy I am about it. There’s one next week. I usually go but not sure.

Make shorter to-do lists, and other simple ways to avoid being overwhelmed.

DENISON: Zeynep Tufekci is a professor of sociology and public affairs at Princeton University and a New York Times opinion columnist. Her latest Times article is headlined “We Were Badly Misled About the Event That Changed Our Lives.” She describes in great detail the lengths taken to discount that the COVID-19 pandemic began in a research lab in Wuhan, China. If you’re thinking this issue is relegated to the past, think again. Tufekci refers us to a recent paper in Cell, a prestigious scientific journal, reporting that researchers have taken samples of viruses found in bats and experimented to see if they could infect human cells and pose a pandemic risk.

RICK WISE [SABR Bio] is the only pitcher to hit two home runs in the same game he threw a no-hitter. On 23-Jun-1971, Wise became the complete ball player. He held The Big Red Machine hitless and took Ross Grimsley deep in the 5th, and Clay Carroll deep in the 8th. Wise was the first pitcher to retire with 500 career appearances and not a single save. He pitched in 506 games. He was once traded, one-for-one for a future Hall of Famer. On 25-Feb-1972, he was traded by PHI to STL for Steve Carlton.
