I wouldn’t mind Tech losing every game as long as they (1) wouldn’t have so many dumb penalties, (2) not have punts blocked, (3) not throw interceptions or fumble, (4) not drop passes right in their hands, (5) play as well against average teams as they do against great teams, and (6) not have players constantly tripping and falling down without getting hit.
The game could’ve been much closer than 41-10. Tech’s offense has improved. QB Jeff Sims played well. Not bad considering they were playing one of the best defenses in the country. The Tech defense swarmed over Clemson offensive players all night, but got scant help from the Jacket offense and special teams.
Clemson’s offense really didn’t get going until late in the game. Easy to see that freshman QB Cade Klubnik from Texas (above) is light years better than starter DJ. Only a matter of time before the freshman takes over. GT defense looks good, and they are improved, but the Clemson QB helped make the Jacket defense look better. QB DJ may have lost weight and rededicated himself, but he looked the same as last year. Fumbles the snap. Designed run - and he fumbles. Runs, and falls down. Breaks into the open - and falls down. Drops back to pass. Instead of 1-2-3-thow, DJ hesitates, holding onto the ball too long. Gets sacked. Even on the TD pass DJ held onto the ball too long. Delay of game. Having to call timeout of the fourth and goal. Tigers go up 14-0 but that kind of offensive play won't work against Notre Dame, South Carolina, or FSU.
Tech social media was blasting full bore before the game. Lots of hype. As usual, about the time Clemson went ahead by two touchdowns, the GT social media went silent. Discouraging as a Tech fan to hear the announcers say over and over “bad call by the Tech coaches” and “not sure why Tech did that” and “bad play by Tech”. When Tech’s talent isn’t as good as their opponents, they’re not going to win much when they keep shooting themselves in the foot. First play: Sims under center, so by the time he drops back he is under pressure. Interception. GT offense doesn't look too bad. QB Sims settled down and makes plays. But the same mistakes year after year under Coach Collins.
GT in all navy. Ugh. Clemson wears the same uniform every game. On the road it's white over white.
After missing a 50 yard field goal, a Tech kicker made a 45 yard field goal - then put the ensuing kickoff into the end zone.
Saw where Connie and Danny Morris went to the GT game. Stephanie Dukes was at the UGA game, as well as Will, Anna, & Caleb. Will said Shivonne picked out an orange outfit to wear on Saturday.
Sometimes teams like NC State get lucky. I watched a good chunk of that game but finally changed the channel. NC State did not impress me as an ACC contender. Neither did UNC, who let a good App State team score 60 points on them.
LSU kicker gets his PAT blocked with the game on the line. FSU has improved.
After church on Sunday I drove C down to shop at Lenox Square with Anna. I looked for a McDonalds, but settled on a chocolate milkshake from the Shake Shack. Then I took a nap in the car, since Lenox doesn’t have anyplace to sit any more. Pretty sure I saw Randy Scoggins. Later watched some of LSU/FSU. The Noles have improved.
Rumor: Ozzie Albies is fielding balls in the outfield, to possibly give the Braves the deepest lineup possible for the stretch drive.
Busy again at work. Busted my butt all last week filling in for a vacationing coworker, so I have plenty of catching up to do.
