Big Darnell Washington had a big day.
Tennessee edged Alabama. Both looked good on offense. Both will be formitable opponents for Georgia. Hopefully the Vols will get the big head. Bama sure won't.
On the way to the ballpark today the Braves all wore matching sweatsuits. It didn't help.
DON DRYSDALE [SABR Bio] was the last player to hit a grand slam at the Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum, on 09-Aug-1961. A year before he retired, he broke a 64 year old major league record. Drysdale pitched complete-game shutouts on 14-May-, 18-May-, 22-May-, 26-May-, 31-May- & 04-Jun-1968. When he racked up his 6th consecutive shutout, he broke the record of five straight held set by the White Sox' Doc White in 1904. 1969 was Drysdale's last season. He was sometimes called "Airedale", the largest of the British terriers. Mickey Mantle said of him, "[He] was not only big, but meaner than hell!" Mantle also said, "He'd come around before a game, punch me in the ribs or on the butt & say, 'Where'd you like to have one today?' "
Journeyman Max Surkont was the last pre-expansion pitcher to surrender six home runs to one player in a season, to TED KLUSZEWSKI [SABR Bio]. Pittsburgh's Surkont served up 6 of Big Klu's MLB-leading 49 HR in 1954. Ted starred on an undefeated D-1 football team. Kluszewski was a freshman on the Indiana Hoosiers that had a record of 9‑0‑1 in 1945, winning the Big Ten Championship.
In Matthew 5:22 Jesus said: "I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother will be liable to judgement; whoever insults his brother will be liable to the council, and whoever says "You fool!" will be liable to the hell of fire."
