Look Ma No Hands

Shivonne is quite the daredevil. How many one-year olds swing without holding on?

UGA sophomore Brock Bowers won the John Mackey Award, given to the nation's top tight end.

Bowers was named the tight end on the All-SEC first team. UGA's Darnell Washington was named the tight end on the All-SEC second team. No other school has ever landed two players to the first and second All SEC teams at one position.

Another day, another postseason honor for Stetson.

I like reading those books by Vince Flynn and Brad Thor where the tough guys go in to free the good guys and blow up the back guys.

That Arby's burger looks tempting, but fast food burgers are rarely as good as they look in the ads. I’d rather have one from a sit down restaurant. The fancy fast food burgers cost almost as much as the burgers at the sit down places, and aren’t as good. Man a good burger is at Bad Daddy's Burgers. There’s one up Peachtree in Chamblee just north of Brookhaven and Oglethorpe.

Good that Griner was released. Just seems like the US always gets less out of these deals than the other country. Now we learn the US gave additional concessions to Saudi Arabia to help broker the deal.

Not sure of any good movies. All we watch are Hallmark or Lifetime movies. Every now and then an aging former star actor / actress will pop up in a supporting role. Next week there will be a live performance of some Broadway musical on TV, on Thursday night I think or Friday. Star-studded cast, including Martin Short.

Today for lunch my company is catered a “holiday” meal for everyone: smoked turkey, ham, broccoli casserole, sweet potatoes, etc. – from Dreamland BBQ. I ate too much. Had two vendors bring in pecans this week, covered in chocolate and or yogurt. Want some?

Saw during the UGA@GT game the new head coach Brent Key on the sidelines, sitting next to former Jacket / Brave / Yankee Mark Teixeira, who was a classmate of Key’s back in the day. Teixeira’s dad married Brian McCann’s mother. The game was called by former GT announcer Wes Durham (below right).

Slept late this AM so only had time to run two fast miles, the fastest mile and 2 miles I’ve run all year. I’m not trying for speed, but I do need to run faster / longer and walk less. Now running “fast” for 2 minutes then walking one, and I don’t need to cut back from that.

C fixed stir fry last night. Watched the college football awards. They honored Archie Manning, and had a nice interview with him after an introduction by his boys. Archie is so gracious and humble. He likes staying in touch with the game through his Manning Passing Academy. They have 40 college QB’s serving as counselors to coach over 1200 high school QB’s every summer. Stetson worked there this past summer.

No plans for tonight. Worked until six. AM golf tomorrow. C has a luncheon at JFBC. Will have to tape the Heisman presentation, and Saturday Night Live with hosts Steve Martin and Martin Short.

BILL MAZEROSKI  [SABR Bio] his franchise record for home runs in a season by a 2nd baseman stood 56 years - 19 HR in 1958. The record was finally broken when Neal Walker hit 23 in 2014. Maz won the World Series with the Pirates in 1960 & 1971. He was on the HOF ballot 15 times from 1978-92, and made it in 2001 by a vote of the Veterans’ CommitteeHis 1,706 double plays still tops those of any other second baseman.

VIDEO: Charles Darwin did more to plant seeds of racism and white supremacy into the minds of school children and adults than anyone else in history. Darwin’s theory of evolution via natural selection is unavoidably racist, and was later disproved by modern-day scientists.

DENISONKirk Cameron has a new children's book titled As You GrowThe book "follows Sky Tree's journey from a small acorn to a mighty tree that provides shade, sustenance, and lodging". As many authors do, Cameron and Brave Books—the story's publisher—were hoping to increase interest by engaging with local libraries and their story-hour programs. So far, more than fifty said no. Rochambeau Public Library in Providence, RI replied that "We are a very queer-friendly library. Our messaging does not align...we won't run your program." Many of the other libraries have claimed a similar rationale for their decision to decline.
