Watched a good chunk of the Fever vs Sun opener. Clark had 20 points plus a few assists. The game drew a record viewing audience on ESPN2, 60% higher than Diana Turasi’s first game oh so long ago. Some rude awakening.
Vegas was playing in the late game, with two Iowa players on the roster. I looked up the Aces roster to see if Martin had made the team. Kate reminds me of Peppermint Patty. Saw where Kate gets to wear her Iowa #20 for the Vegas team. Two rookies made the team. Interesting advertisements during the Fever game, tailored to WNBA fans. Sue Bird and two other players in an ad for CarMax. Iowa’s head coach retired. She is about my age.
Saw where the basketball hall of fame (in Springfield Mass?) had a SLAM display exhibit that will be posted for the rest of the year.
Stayed at work Tuesday night until after 630 working on a project. Leftovers for supper. Around 730 pm I heard a faint knock on the door. It was a little boy who Ceil had talked to while walking Winnie. Ceil pointed out where we live, and told him to stop by any time. He did! Sweet.
Wednesday: played golf. Teed off at 6:25 am. Lots of dew. Lost 8 balls but found 13, so I came out ahead. Hit lots of shots. Some of my better shots:
1. Decent drive off tee. Good 6 iron over green. Several good chips. “Par”.
2. Decent 6 iron off tee. Okay chip. Two putt. “Bogey”.
3. Okay 8 iron off tee that faded left. Great chip. “Par”.
4. Meant to hit a 6 iron but grabbed a 9 iron by mistake. Tee shots faded left. Chip hit a clump of cut grass, which turned out good. Two putt for “bogey”.
5. Third tee shot rolled to the fringe. Okay chip. “Par”.
6. Great drive, using my hybrid. Cruddy 6 iron. Chipped just left of the green. Okay chip. Two putt. “Double”.
7. Good drive off tee. Pulled a 5 iron left. Pulled a 7 iron left of the green. Great chip to two feet. “Bogey”
8. Hit two good drives. Good wedge to the fringe. Two putt for “par”.
9. 3 wood off tee wasn’t great. Wedge wasn’t great. Then a real good chip. One putt for “bogey”.
Man you don’t see many people with as much situational awareness / good attitude / mentally strong / spiritual as Kirk Cousins. Great example for kids and adults. This article is a great example of that.
JAMIE MOYER [SABR Bio] is the only pitcher who surrendered home runs to more different major leaguers than Bartolo Colon has. Colon was taken deep by 307 different major leaguers. Moyer? 332. Jamie won the Branch Rickey Award, the Lou Gehrig Memorial Award, and was named The Sporting News #1 Good Guy. He was released by six different teams and granted free agency another 7 times. See BB-Ref.
