NFL: Herschel Did Dominate

Kid on Twitter considers himself the defender on the Pro Football Hall of Fame. No association, but always tweeting why a player is unworthy. Who asked him?

He recently chimed in about Herschel Walker. Hit a nerve.

If retiring with the second-most combined yards in NFL history wasn't such a big accomplishment, then why hadn't anyone else done it? Throw out kick returns. Only eight of 43 PFHOF backs had more NFL rushing and receiving yards than Herschel when he retired. Riggins and Simpson only had a handful more than Walker. Only Marcus Allen had more receiving yards.

"Never dominated the NFL at any time"? If my numbers are right, at the end of the decade only Eric Dickerson was gaining more rushing and receiving yards.

5521 Dickerson 86-87-88
5199 Walker
4797 Roger Craig
3510 Marcus Allen

7043 Dickerson 86-87-88-89
6537 Walker
6324 Craig
3994 Allen
2918 Thurman Thomas

7812 Dickerson 86-87-88-89-90
7622 Walker
6964 Craig
4865 Allen
4831 Thomas

Herschel's 1606 yards from scrimmage in 1987 led the league. His 76 receptions were the second-most by a rookie in NFL history (for any position). That wasn't dominant? Dude needs to go pick on some other player.

The kid is correct on one thing: the selection process for the "pro football hall of fame" is rigorous, and there are plenty of players worthy of consideration with too few enshrine spots.
