Falcons Red Helmets

The Falcons will wear their red helmets and throwback uniforms against the 49ers, which should make for a good-looking matchup of classic uniforms. And they'll wear them more than once. This pic below looks fake.

Uni Watch made it their lead story. The team hinted about the red helmets during the recent schedule release.

I love the red hats with grey masks, but the gold stripe looks different this time. Methinks the white stripe is wider than before. It used to be the same width as the gold stripe. How's that for picking nits?

Meanwhile over at UGA, recruits are taking photos in white helmets and pants. Last summer it was red jerseys and pants. In some cases it may be the recruits mixing and matching on their own.

Our HR manager fired himself after asking employees to (1) pay money (2) to walk three miles (3) up a mountain (4) first thing on a Saturday morning (5) hours away from our homes (6) on an unpaved rocky path. Didn't he know that is something we are already doing five days a week?

EARL AVERILL [B-R Bio] was the only outfielder selected to the first six All-Star Games, from 1933 to 1938. He was the first Cleveland Indian to homer in his first at bat, on 16-Apr-1929 off Detroit's Earl Whitehill. Since then, Jay Bell (29‑Sep‑1986) and  Kevin Kouzmanoff (02-Sep- 2009) have homered in their first at-bat as Cleveland Indians. His son was his school's first All-American baseball player. Earl Douglas Averill (Not junior. Dad was Howard Earl Averill) was an All-American at the University of Oregon as a sophomore.

BILLY WILLIAMS  [SABR Bio] was the first National Leaguer to play in more than a thousand consecutive games. Williams played 1,117 straight games, an NL record until Steve Garvey's 1,207 consecutive games. Williams played for Oakland at the end of his career, in 1975 & 1976. Johnny Bench won the NL MVP in 1970 & 1972. Williams placed second both years. He was the first batter in his franchise's long history to have four doubles in a game. Williams accomplished the feat 09-Apr-1969. The only other Cub to hit four doubles in a game was Matt Murton on 03-Aug-2006. The Cubs franchise dates from 1876.

Giants manager Gabe Kapler has been wearing some funky high-top sneakers with his Stance socks.
