Worst Trade Ever?

Going into Monday night’s game in Arizona, the Braves had won four of their past six. First-baseman Matt Olson led the league in doubles. But then the All Star / Gold Glover dropped a throw, and struck out in a key situation. Two months into Olson’s eight-year contract, some fool on Twitter labeled it the worst trade in history. When a calmer head tried to point this out, the fool came back with “Yeah, but…blah blah blah”. Block.

After Arizona, the Braves have won 5 of their past 9 games. Then six of ten. With two thirds of the season remaining (4 months) it is way too early to panic. Another good performance by the starting pitcher. Everyone is not going to have a great game every night. Austin Riley is on pace to hit 39 home runs. On Tuesday Matt Olson went 4-5 with a homer, two doubles, 4 RBI, and a run scored. Bad trade my eye.

When rookie callup Michael Harris made his first "good" catch, he actually knocked the ball into his glove with his bare hand.

The Gwinnett Stripers honored women’s sports by wearing jerseys inspired by the Rockford Peaches, from the movie A League of Their Own. Proceeds from the jersey auction will benefit women’s sports.

Good picture of the Stripers' alternate fish sleeve uniforms.

Kevin Costner shared a Ray Liotta story from ‘Field Of Dreams’.

PAUL BYRD [B-R Bio] led the majors in hitting batters in the only season he made the All-Star team, with 17 HBP in 1999, ten more than the next closest total. He played for the LA Angels in 2005. He was frequently called “the nicest guy in baseball”. The baton had been passed from Dale Murphy to Sean Casey to Byrd, and now Joey Votto. Late in his career, Byrd developed an old-fashioned, early 20th-century windup where he swung his arms back & forth to create deception and momentum. Byrd is the dud with the cool dude feather belt.
