Left work Wednesday at 445. Drove an hour to Sandy Springs. Friend had forgot we were meeting. At six I left out for Cumming. Bad traffic. Made it shortly after 7 pm. Two hours 15 min in the car (plus 45 minutes in the morning commute, plus 45 home from Cumming.
Only 7 in attendance at Hot Stove. One guy had brought his Marty Marion fielder’s mitt. Very nice. He got it at Goodwill! Made we want to oil my old mitts. Old Tom Curran talked about attending game 4 of the 1950 World Series. Starting pitcher was a rookie, Whitey Ford. After the game they exited through the outfield. Looked for DiMaggio but Joe had fought his way through the crowd. Jerry had exited out of Forbes Field the same way.
Made it home by 920. Made tacos from the leftover ingredients.
Up early this morning to run at the gym.
Saban: I heard that Oregon coach Dan Lanning is not going to Bama. Maybe he has to tell his team first. Ben here at work does think Ole Miss coach Lane Kiffen would be Bama’s second choice to replace Saban. Doubt Ole Miss coach Lane Tiffin will make the cut at Bama. He says too much controversial stuff. Someone said the young FSU head coach, who seems good – but he seemed to lose control of his team after they weren’t included in the four team playoff. Perhaps Dan Lanning the Oregon head coach, who spent time at Bama before following Kirby to UGA. No way Bama picks Dabo.
Saban bought a huge estate in Jupiter Florida near Tiger. Stretches from the intercoastal waterway all the way to the ocean. Tiger has golf holes he can play in his backyard.
Reminds me of when Bama hired GT head coach Bill Curry. He replaced Gene Stallings, who had replaced Bear Bryant.
The only reason Belichick isn’t just going to retire is that he wants to break the all time wins record. He might not care where he coaches, as long as he gets a job. Sure being his own GM would be nice. Hopefully the Falcons are smart enough to know they need a new QB and that Ritter isn’t the answer.
Having Ritter as QB won’t deter Harbaugh. Ritter’s time with the Falcons is almost done. Plus he was what, a 3rd round draft pick, not as expensive a contract. Ritter already paid like a backup.
Harbaugh will be choosier about what team he goes with. Probably wants the power as a GM more than money. Harbaugh might not want to go to Carolina if he doesn’t like Bryce Young, who is locked up as their QB for the time being. Falcons can draft or sign a new QB, and Harbaugh should be able to have input on which QB they get. Not sure about other teams with job openings.
