Pistol Pete

Did not realize that Pete Maravich played alongside Gail Goodrich in New Orleans. Later with Larry Bird in Boston. Also Lou Hudson in Atlanta. Saw an old Maravich commercial for a hair product. He was wearing his sweet Hawks warmups.

My prayers might be “better” if I wrote them out, but I never do. I usually don’t know in advance that I am going to pray! I don’t see anyone at JFBC reading their prayers. But as I pray it seems like the Lord is directing and guiding me and putting people and situations on my heart and mind to pray for.

Since I am taking sermon notes on my phone, often during the prayers I am praying with my eyes open, pecking away catching up on my notes. I try to keep taking notes through the entire sermon, typing as much of the sermon as possible. Only if there’s a story / anecdote that I may not try to take note of. Ceil and others may take outline-type notes, but I know our Sunday School teacher Brian also takes detailed notes.

Bryant Wright started the tradition of having the congregation stand at the beginning of the sermon when he read the scripture, to honor the Word of God. His replacement Clay Smith has continued that tradition, as do the other JFBC staff members who preach as fill-ins. They say “please stand, if you are physically able”. Then after the Bible reading there is usually a prayer, and at the end of the sermon another prayer.

Felt a little better on Sunday, but still not 100%. Lots of coughing in the office.

After church Ceil drove to the Westside. On the way home I stopped by the post office, Kroger, Dollar Tree, and Goodwill. Fixed quesadillas for lunch. Did some work. Watched Packers at Cowboys and a little Rams@Lions. Pancakes for supper.

Monday: got up and drove to the gym – but it was closed. Made it to work early.

Article: why young people are departing from their faith…

1. They had never really made it their own faith in the first place.

2. They see too much hypocrisy among believers.

3. They have never been discipled.

4. Culture permits them to live differently then their Christian upbringing demands.

5. They never had anyone legitimately hear their questions.

6. They had no real grounding in Scripture.

7. They’re dealing with sin in their lives.

8. ME: they’re too busy doing other things they want to do.

9. ME: God is not a priority to them.

How can you tell if someone is smart? They draw wisdom from multiple sources. They know their audience. They develop a keen sense for their job. They are curious. They're great at conveying ideas. They think before asking a question. They make hard ideas simple. They know what they don't know, and don't try to fake it. They ask great questions. They listen. They don't pretend to know everything. They change their minds when they learn new information. They apply knowledge from one area into new and relevant situations. They are open minded. They use analogies. They don't argue or insult. They learn from mistakes, and own up to them. They have a sense of humor, and know the difference between a cheap joke and what's really funny and original. They have a love of learning.

Things you can do with old iPhones. All seem too complicated for me.
