Home By Dark

Headed up to downtown Alpharetta this evening
to attend a free concert on the green.
Lee and Nancy picked us up. After placing our chairs we walked through the recently built town center. Lots of new restaurants and shops and condos. We beat the always packed weekend crowd. Passed up several newer trendier eateries and ate at Smokehouse BBQ, which has been in business on Highway 9 for some time.
We both split beef brisket plates.
Ceil and I got slaw, rice pudding, and grilled vegetables.
Even before the introductions I recognized the bass player,
my friend Mike Shetler (back right). Former Living Science dad.
The crowd faced south toward the stage. The town center was to our right. The sun had dropped behind the library,
and a nice breeze kept things unseasonable cool all evening.
Home Before Dark is a faith-based summer concert series,
mostly bluesy, original songs by the artists.
Thoroughly enjoyable evening.
A pleasant crowd of a thousand or so suburbanites,
a vast majority over fifty, 99% white.
