How It Started

How it's going.
Going.
Gone.

Tuesday: worked past 6 pm. Stopped by Dollar Tree for a balloon and candy. Then Kroger for flowers and cookies and other stuff. Got home at 7:30. Watched Jeopardy and Jimmy Fallon.

Played golf this AM to help recharge my batteries. Wouldn’t have minded playing alone, but as I was about to tee off the professor drove up. Then fast playing Bill Chastain arrived, so we let him go first. He played 15 holes in the time it took us to play nine. Seemed like I had a two foot putt on every hole, just long enough to be a tester. Made all but the last one.

1. I hit two good drives. Decent 7 iron just short of green. Bad chip then a great chip, “Par”.

2. Two flubbed tee shots. Second shot not much better. Bad chip good chip. Two putt for “bogey”.

3. Flubbed shot. Hit my mulligan better but left. Bad chip good chip. Two putt for “bogey”.

4. Decent 6 iron off tee. Okay chip. Good lag putt. A two-footer for bogey.

5. Decent hybrid to fringe. Three putt for bogey.

6. Okay drive off tee. Hit two approach shots, neither great. Chipped over the green. Good chip back. Two putt for a “double”.

7. Drive went left, which is rare. Then 5 iron stayed left, twice. Bad chip then a better chip. Good lag putt. Another 2 footer for a triple.

8. First drive hit a tree, but the mulligan was great. Seven iron wasn’t pretty but stopped on the fringe. Two putt for "par".

9. Okay tee shot. Nine iron wasn’t pretty but rolled to the fringe. Good lag but finally missed the 2 footer on the sloped green.

It was like an Easter Egg Hunt out there this morning. Both me and GT were finding all sorts of lost balls. Found 5 on one. One on three, and 2 on five. Lost 2 on six, but found one. Lost one on 7 but found two. So I was ahead eight balls.

BERNIE WILLIAMS [SABR Bio] is the only Yankee to win multiple Gold Glove awards and play for no other major league team. He played for New York from 1991-2006; won 4 Gold Gloves, and was a batting champ in 1998 when he hit .339. He and a teammate once hit grand slams in consecutive innings. Williams’ came in the 8th inning of 14-Sep1999. Paul O’Neill hit his in the final frame.  Grand slams so close together in the same game is a notable event, but earlier that same season at Dodger Stadium, Fernando Tatis hit two in the same inning, both off Chan Ho Park. Williams was the last player to receive three intentional walks in one game in the twentieth century, on 29-Sep-1999 off Devil Ray pitchers Rick White, Jeff Sparks, and Wilson Alvarez. The next batter to receive three in one game was Barry Bonds in 2001.

Biggest omissions from the Pro Football Hall of Fame (besides Herschel, of course).

DENISON: Satan loves to isolate God’s people. He knows the power of unity in God’s Spirit. Social media measures success by popularity and makes people a means to the end of our “likes” and “follows.” Relativism defines truth as personal, and makes us the arbiter of our own identity and reality. Take a live coal from the fire and it goes out. Put a dead coal in the fire and it comes to life. Being identified with a local church is not enough. Are you engaged in intentional community within the body of Christ?
