Bashing Baby Boomers

Young Tammy Ziv at “HeraldWeekly.com” doesn’t seem to understand that some people might not have the same world view as her. This clickbait article was so outlandish that I had to make notes: 101 things boomers still think are groovy, but aren’t (according to her). Most are untrue, wild generalizations at best. In thirty years she will be in the same boat, if her generation is able to fight its way out of conflicts with China and Russia (if not, they can just blame the boomers).

1. “How many people could enjoy free higher education with all the money spent on diamonds?”

2. “Golf is the most boring sport known to man.”

3. “Boomers still see malls as retail paradise.” She obviously hasn’t been to a mall lately. Few boomers there.

4. Evidently boomers eat toasted white sandwich bread with nothing on top, instead of the expensive avocado toast preferred by millennials.

5. Boomers watch the news instead of simply going online to quickly find out what’s going on. To her “no news is good news”. Sounds just like so many of the uniformed spouting ignorant opinions.

6. Crocs are ridiculous (but “comfortable”).

7. Boomers read Readers Digest. They do?

8. Better to wear wrinkled clothes than to iron them.

9. Boomers wear Jorts. Sounds like she’s attacking middle America.

10. “Word Wall Art” isn’t inspirational, it’s “tacky”. Agreed.

11. Airbrushed t-shirts. Now she’s attacking rednecks. Better watch out. They have guns.

12. Boomers believe conspiracy theories, like the Soviets assassinating JFK. In fact, Lee Harvey Oswald once literally lived in Russia because he preferred their government.

13. Watch NCIS and every other cop show.

14. “Nobody sends emails any more”.

15. Boomers use landlines. We do? “There’s really no reason not to use your cell phone for all your calls and other cool stuff too”. Spoken like a true millennial.

16. Go on cruises.

17. Pay paper bills. Bad for the environment.

18. MESSAGES IN ALL CAPS. “How can we explain why this is such a problem.” ME: why don’t millennials use question marks?

19. Retirement funds. “When you guys empty out all the money Social Security has, the rest of us will never be able to retire…it hardly seems fair”. Several things wrong with this statement.

20. The only spice boomers use is Mrs. Dash.

21. Boomers love shopping channels.

22. Wearing pleated slacks.

23. Playing racquetball. Wait til she learns about

24. Boomers put wallpaper everywhere.

25. Cable TV packages.

26. Boomers are to blame for the use of fossil fuels, destroying the planet, and fighting wars over oil. Sounds like a conspiracy theory to me.

27. Fuzzy toilet seat covers.

28. Meatloaf. “And you wonder why hipster food is so popular?” At least she used a question mark.

29. Buy infomercial products.

30. Boomers eat salads that make no sense. She admits millennials eat strange things, like kombucha and sprouted nuts.

31. Boomers fall for Avon’s pyramid schemes. “Why not go to Sephora for the cheaper brands.” No question mark again.

32. Boomers flip through catalogs.

33. Throw pillows.

34. Drink orange juice concentrate.

35. Using a metal detector at the beach.

36. Potpourri.

37. Watch Dateline.

38. Eat too much processed food.

39. “Tax the rich. It’s about time somebody worried about the rich minority in America. Hope you’re not too attached to the surplus economy. It was nice while it lasted.” What?

40. Soap bars are gross.

41. Eat at buffets.

42. Collect knickknacks.

43. Chain restaurants.

44. Boomers devoted to blue for boys and pink for girls. “Someone should tell them that this is a brave new world and boys and girls can play with whatever they want”. Thanks for the tip.

45. Expensive china.

46. Blouses with crazy patterns, made from synthetic fabrics.

47. Read Danielle Steel novels.

48. Boomers listen to financial advisers.

49. Fall for multi-level marketing.

50. “Wearing khaki clothing is a complete fashion crime” I agree.

51. Boomers are in denial about sweepstakes.

52. Boomers believe Alex Jones. Who?

53. Purchases clothes at Chico’s. Where? I thought she didn’t shop in malls.

54. Paper napkins.

55. Boomers work 9 to 5. If I’s so bad, she should suggest a better alternative.

56. Read paper newspapers. Who does this?

57. Purchase overpriced preppy activewear.

58. Use DVDs and VHS. Bad for the environment. “Just go digital”.

59. Being a patriot = good. Feeling superior = bad. “A little more acceptance is always a good thing”. Now who isn’t being accepting?

60. “Criticize millennials for everything”. Like this entire “article” isn’t criticizing boomers for everything.

61. Boomers stay in hotels. Shame!

62. Boomers use encyclopedias.

63. Put baseball cards in bike spokes. Is nothing sacred?

64. Eat Swansons TV dinners. She’s starting to repeat herself.

65. Reminisce about TV station signoffs.

66. Admire Paul Newman. “He was one of the coolest guys who ever lived”. Why is she listing good things?

67. Recall billboard tobacco ads.

68. Eat jello.

69. Use phone books and rotary phones. What were we supposed to do?

70. Tinfoil on the TV antenna.

71. Transistor radios.

72. Eat spam.

73. Patterned vests.

74. Silly putty.

75. Boomers think payphones are in. We do? “Everyone has a smartphone”. Who is entitled?

76. Own a TV with knobs. Earlier she blasted boomers for being suck consumers. Should we throw away our old TVs and buy new ones?

77. “Pay one dollar for terrible things”. Wait til she learns Dollar Tree raised their prices.

78. Rewatch old SNL. Is this bad or good?

79. Wood-paneled station wagons “before SUVs”. Who is burning fossil fuels again?

80. Listen to 8 track tapes.

81. Eat margarine.

82. Use answering machines.

83. Actually go to the bank. “At least use the drive thru”. And burn more fossil fuels?

84. Smoking in your car is bad – it leaves a smell. Not that smoking is bad for you.

85. Paying with checks.

86. Using an actual dictionary.

87. Wearing socks with sandals. Like she never sees millennials rocking this look on hiking trails.

88. Only boomers use S&H green stamps. She’s attacking middle America again.

89. “Boomers find it hard to get rid of things” – like all the things their millennial kids leave behind when they move out.

90. “Watch a movie at a drive in”. What? Outside? On a huge screen? When I can watch the same movie on my phone? Gross!

91. Believe Bonanza is hip. It sure ain’t Stranger Things, that’s for sure.

92. Wait for the postman.

93. Use a rotary phone. Another repeat. “”Boomers hate smartphones”. What? My 90 year old mother in law couldn’t stay off hers.

94. Think Clint Eastwood is cool. Harry Stiles he ain’t.

95. Smoking in films. She may be confused – that was before boomers came of age.

96. Transistor radios. Another repeat.

97. Typewriters. How foolish of us.

98. Listen to vinyl. “Because boomers can’t navigate music on the internet”. I wonder if little Miss Millenial can change a tire.

99. Polaroid Cameras. In style again.

100. Old video cameras vs digital.

101. Pinball machines. “You can just play pinball on your phone. Progress.”

One thing about us boomers – we’re suckers for clickbait articles. A pretty weak effort. Who reads this trash? I don’t think this person was having a good day. At least she’s working in journalism.

Heck if boomers acted like millennials, they’d find something else to say was cool. I’m sure she’d look down on my blog. What ever happened to loving and accepting people for who they are? Don’t millennials like that?
