I love me some BBQ, but all BBQ ain't created equal.
Thursday: worked past 5:30. Stopped for gas on the way home. Guess what C fixed for dinner? BBQ chicken. We like our Thursday night TV, but I was tired so I went to bed at 9:30.
Golf Friday morning. The vet showed up, so I played with him.
1. Two decent drives off the tee. Skidded a 7 iron. A good pitch. Three putt. Double.
2. Hit a 6 iron that sailed left, but with decent distance. Great oitch onto the green. Two putt. Bogey.
3. Same deal, The 6 iron felt good, but left. Great pitch onto the green. Another two putt for bogey.
4. Skidded two 7 irons off the tee. Great pitch onto the green. Third straight two putt for bogey.
5. Skidded my 6 iron, but it rolled to the fringe. Great lag putt. Par.
6. Hit driver off tee. Sailed right. Skidded my mulligan, but it got a good roll. Hit a great 5 iron that faded left. With a tree between me and the green, I hit a great pitch that rolled to the back fringe. Two putt for "bogey".
7. Hit my drive right, just like the old days. Could've hit my 6 iron better and further. From the rough I hit a great 5 iron well past the crest of the hill. Had time to hit two approach shots. Both landed just right of the green. Good little chip. Two putt. Double, but not bad for such a long hole.
8. Hit a tree with my first drive, then skidded the second. Hit my second ball, not realizing the ball I'd picked up under the tree wasn't my first shot. I was wondering why my fairway shot didn't go further (it had looked and felt great). Then I hit my first ball, thinking it was my second (guess I should pay more attention to what ball I was hitting). Putted from the fringe past the hole, then a two putt back. Technically a "bogey" with my first ball.
9. Hit my 3 wood right, and skidded the mulligan. My playing partner was standing up ahead of me. I was afraid I'd hit him, so I skidded my shot. Bad pitch better pitch. Three putt. Triple bogey on the long par three. A decent round. Feeling much more comfortable chipping and hitting my irons. Guess I should always play three times a week. If I retire I could.
Didn't lose any balls this morning. Found two balls on the second hole, one on the third, and two on the 8th hole, so I was plus five today. Now that I'm stocked up on golf balls, I'm finding more than I lose. Murphy's Law.
I used to have a new excel spreadsheet calendar on my computer every year. I would make notes about what was going on, similar to my scrapbook calendar. Every December I would copy over the calendar to the new year. That is where I had all my birthdays. I don't use that computer calendar any more, just the scrapbook calendar. So I don't have all my birthdays like I used to.
I hate that machine at Taco Bell. Doesn't let me order my senior soft drink!
I will take a nap in the car when I am waiting on Ceil. She likes for me to drive her around. C likes to take Winnie, but Winnie hates riding in the car.
You know how many dogs will smile? When they have their mouth slightly open, it looks like they are smiling and happy. Barney always smiled. For the longest time Winnie would never smile, but now she is starting to smile. Winnie turns 2 on March 17.
Wednesday I worked until 5:45. Made one stop on the way home. C cooked black beans and rice. M ate with us. I went to bed at 9 am. Ran two "fast" miles at the gym Thursday morning. Actually longer. All of a sudden my laptop wasn't working at home. And my phone wasn't receiving work emails. Not good. Spent two hours on the phone with the help desk Friday afternoon to get them fixed.
Finished the novel "Lessons in Chemistry". Connie Morris and another friend had read it. I didn't see my friend's unfavorable review until I was halfway through. The main character is like a robot. Stiff. The entire story downgrades men and Christianity. Society in the early 1960's may have been male dominated, but we've come a long way since then.
RANDY JOHNSON [SABR Bio] is the only pitcher to throw a perfect game after his 40th birthday. Johnson turned 40 on 10-Sep-2003. His perfecto came on 18-May-2004, the following season. He was traded to HOU by SEA on 31-Jul-1998 and posted a record of 10‑1 with a 1.28 ERA for them before filing for free agency after the season. He is the most recent pitcher to walk as many as 140 batters in a season. He issued 152 BB in 1991 and 144 in 1992. No one has issued even 100 since 2012. He is the only NL pitcher with four consecutive 300 strikeout seasons. Johnson struck out 364, 347, 372 & 334 from 1999 to 2002. He also had a 300-K season in 1993 in the AL.
Oswald Chambers: "The reason some of us are such poor specimens of Christianity is because we have no Almighty Christ. We have Christian attributes and experiences, but there is no abandonment to Jesus Christ."
