Ate at Superica at The Battery on Friday night. The whole place was teeming with people of all ages and races. Long line to get into a private boxing event at Sports & Social. We ate on the patio, with a direct view of the red Braves logo on the bridge to Terrapin Taproom. The windows were open, but it was still warm. Upgraded from the quesadilla to the fajitas. Good, but a step below the deliousness of Pappasitos. We had leftovers to take home. I was stuffed, but went to bed early. Couldn’t sleep.
Saturday: the sun was up by 6:45. I was at the first tee at 6:55 hitting my first ball. Partner didn’t tee off until 20 minutes later.
1. First drive was decent but right. Flubbed mulligan. Later a third drive went right. Skidded 7 iron approach, and the ensuing chip. Nice chip from bunker, and from other side of green. Bad start.
2. Okay 6 iron, left as usual. Nice chip that rolled off the back of the green. Nice chip and lag putt. Double.
3. Same first three shots as the previous hole. More chips and putts.
4. Skidded my tee shot. Chipped close. Then we all putted around on the impossible temporary green.
5. Skidded two tee shots, one all the way to the fringe. Great lag putt to one foot of the hole. “Par”.
6. Hit driver a decent distance. A good long 5 iron. Chipped onto the green. Another great lag putt to a foot. Bogey.
7. Skidded my drive, but got a decent roll. A great 6 iron up and over the hill. Another great shot to the back of the green. Three putt for a double.
8. A good long drive. Flubbed one 8 iron, then poked one to the fringe. Three putt for another double.
9. Nice 3 wood most of the way up the hill. Chip rolled off the back of the green. Chip and three putt. Triple.
Lost a ball on one. Found a ball on three. Found two Nike balls later on in the round. I think I came out even, if not ahead. Stopped by two thrift stores on the way home, and gassed up the car. Home to eat the leftover fajitas. Out to check out a car repair shop. Home. Out to get a haircut. Nap. Out to visit Nancy’s brother visiting from Minnesota. Home for homemade pizza. We stayed up relatively late, considering the time change.
Sunday School and worship. Then we met M and A&C at Moxie Burger. I had a burger and fries. Later we watched the Players Championship. Bed early again, but couldn’t sleep.
Up early this morning. Made it to the gym earlier than usual, so I ran four relatively “fast” miles. Still made it to the office a few minutes earlier than usual.
BREAKING NEWS:
A couple of older articles about Micah Owings’ unique childhood. And people say home-schooled kids don’t turn into well-adjusted adults.
Study: only 4% of Americans hold a biblical worldview. I can see it on social media, even in the posts from people I used to go to church with. Don’t get me started on the “thoughts and prayers” line.

DAVE PARKER [SABR Bio] was the first player to win the local Roberto Clemente Award more than once. The Pittsburgh Chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America selects a recipient for the Roberto Clemente Award each year. The award goes to the Pirate who most exemplifies the standard of excellence established by Hall-of-Fame outfielder Roberto Clemente. Parker won it in 1974, 1977 & 1978. The Home Run Derby was begun & sponsored in Century 21 Real Estate & held in Minneapolis. Originally dubbed “The All-Star Home Run Contest” was a team event, pitting five NLers versus five ALers. Though Parker did hit the most among all contestants, he won no individual crown & his NL actually lost the event. On Opening Day in 1976 in Philadelphia at Veterans Stadium, Parker (6’5”, 230+ lbs) crashed into catcher Johnny Oates (5’11”, 188 lbs) in the top of the 9th inning, tying the game at 4-4. The impact broke Oates’ collarbone, keeping him out of action until the 3rd of June.
