Braves: Ten Game Lead

Braves split with the Pirates, and are ten games ahead of the Phillies in the East. If the Braves go 24-25 the rest of the way, the Phillies will have to win 72% of their remaining games (going 34-13) to win the division. So far this season Philadelphia has only won 54.8% of their games, the Braves 63.7%. Were this to happen the Braves would still have won 96 games, certainly enough to clinch a wild card spot. At this point its World Series or bust for the Braves.

Braves Mets will be the Sunday Night ESPN game, then the Braves have a late flight home before playing the Yankees on Monday night. Not sure if the Saturday game is on Fox or not. The Braves often lose those national games.

A sports unforms blog I read has become so woke and political that they’re too scared to post photos of the Braves for fear of hurting someone’s feelings. They won’t even say the word “Braves”, referring to them instead as “Atlanta”.

My driver’s license expired on my birthday. Hopefully the police aren’t reading this. They sent me a card encouraging me to renew on line, but when I tried to renew it said that those turning 64 and over have to submit proof of an eye test. Great. Now I have to go to the eye doctor. I dread that motor bureau test. Instead I am going to schedule a regular eyedoctor appt and get a note to turn in when I apply on line.

Just received an email for folks over 65 minimizing the effects of decreased mental capacity. Why did they send this to me? You certainly don’t have this problem. At least I have one more year before hitting 65.

Man the streets seem to be wider up here in the sticks, than down there in town. I love it when they don’t keep making the lanes more narrow!

Article: Michael Youssef warns how the current lack of ‘Biblical Illiteracy,’ and the coming Antichrist should have Christians on notice.

Wednesday: not much to report. Worked past 5:30 and headed home. C had puppy say Anna’s dog Goose. Had breakfast for supper: grits, scrambled eggs, toast, and chicken sausage.

Watched a new Korean drama called “Legal High” but I’m not sure we’ll stick with it. While looking for something to watch on TV I discovered there’s a movie made about the book I’m reading: “The Book Thief”. Looks good, but I’m not sure C wants to watch it, since its set in wartime Germany.

Up early to run at the gym. Was finishing mile two and planned on running one more when my left hip started hurting. Not sure why. I walked another six minutes, but didn’t try to press it. We’ll see.

Always good to have a positive attitude. We need the rain!

John Ed’s devotional is spot on. I remember the story of when Dan Orlovsky prayed right there in the middle of an ESPN TV show. All the broadcasters also bowed their heads and joined him in prayer.

C. S. Lewis warned, “Don’t judge a man by where he is, because you don’t know how far he has come.”

DENISON: we need Lewis’ perspective now more than ever. Giving people the room to make mistakes, learn from them, and then improve takes a level of patience and understanding that is often lacking in our culture today. Christians should be best positioned to offer such grace because we should be best positioned to understand how much grace God has shown us.

Braves rookie Henry Aaron (#5) scores ahead of Cubs catcher Joe Garagiola's tag.

On 30-Jul-1959, WILLIE McCOVEY [SABR Bio] tripled in the 4th and 7th off Robin Roberts. He also singled off him in the 1st and 5th. He ended his debut with a 1.000 batting average and a 2.000 slugging percentage. The previous year’s ROY, Orlando Cepeda, played 3B that day, but must have been concerned. Obama pardoned McCovey for tax evasion. It’s explained here. Sparky Anderson one said of McCovey: ”Here’s a guy who is the most feared in baseball, but everyone pitches around him. If you let him bat 600 times and pitched to him instead of around him, he’d hit 80 home runs.”
