Not sure but I think Georgia is one a of the few states to go back to school in early August and let out in early May. I think the teachers like it that way so they can go on vacation when its not as crowded. Also a week off for fall break, time and Thanksgiving and Christmas, and winter and spring break. I’m always hearing talk of year around school. I always thought I got out of school at 3:15. Crazy that kids are catching the bus at 7 am – or much earlier.
I enter a lot of sweepstakes and that signs me up on a bunch of email lists. But also the spam / scam emails that are obviously fake. I get well over 100 per day, and I don’t go through and delete every day, so they can pile up. Easier to delete on my phone than on my laptop. Every now and then I will take the time to unsubscribe, though that takes time.
Left work yesterday after 5:30. Had to stop for gas. While there the rain started bad. I could see the trees blowing in the wind. Started home and went through a terrible storm. Finally got better. Stopped at Kroger for ice cream.
C cooked burgers. Made homemade fries. Tossed a salad. She usually makes too much salad but I usually eat it all. But last night we were having apple turnovers and ice cream for dessert, so the salad went uneaten.
At 1 am Winnie woke me, needing to go outside. The neighbor’s garage doors were open, and the lights on. By the time Winnie was finished and we were going inside, the neighbor’s garage door was closing.
Since I’ve been doing all this eating I ran at the gym again this morning. Then I went a different way to check the air in my tire. A young lady was there with a flat tire. I tried to help, but she didn’t have a lug wrench, and mine didn’t fit. Then traffic was backed up that way, so I turned around and drove my usual route.
Went to Arbys for lunch: curly fries and a jamoca shake. After work today I ate at Bad Daddy’s Burger Bar. Excellent burger.
KEN GRIFFEY JR [SABR Bio] most iconic home run was surrendered by Kirk McCaskill. On 14-Sep-1990, playing for Seattle, Ken Griffey Jr’s went deep off California’s McCaskill, immediately following that of his father, also off McCaskill. Father would homer once more before retiring. “Junior” hit 594 more. Junior as in the top five of Most Valuable Player voting for five out of six straight seasons. From 1993 through 1998, Junior captured enough AL MVP votes to finish 5th, 2nd, NA, 4th, 1st, and 4th in the final count. His 15 career grand slams tie him with Ryan Howard and Richie Sexson for 14th place on the all-time career list.
DENISON: 70% of Americans believe in the existence of angels, according to a recent AP survey. The same percentage believe in heaven, though even more believe in the power of prayer. Only 58% believe in hell, and even fewer (56%) believe in the existence of the devil. I can understand why we would favor this cafeteria-style religion, but ignoring reality makes it no less real. According to Axios, “existential threats to humanity are soaring.” The article cites climate change, AI, and Russian and Chinese nuclear arsenals. The US Surgeon General has identified an “epidemic of loneliness and isolation” in our society.
C. S. Lewis noted in The Screwtape Letters, Satan wants us to discount his existence so he can act in a world that is ignorant of his devilish schemes. He especially wants us to reject the existence of hell so he can convince us that we have no need to be saved from it.
