2019 Peachtree Road Race T-Shirt Review

This year for the 50th running of the Peachtree Road Race instead of letting professional artists submit ideas for t-shirts, the Atlanta Track Club invited five local “celebrities” to submit possibilities. Most subbed out the work to professionals, but only a few of the five were decent.

1. Author Emily Griffin’s bib design was the best,
created by a former winner of the t-shirt design contest.
2. Former Olympian Jeff Galloway submitted a decent design, with likenesses of past winners, the finish line banner, the skyline, and the huge American flag from the start. Looks similar to a photo I snapped last year. Galloway won the first Peachtree.

3. Atlanta mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms, a participant in last year’s race, also subbed out her bid to a professional artist. It’s just okay.
Not a fan of the “One Atlanta” motto.

4. Harry the Hawk’s design was nothing to write home about:
a winged shoe. Probably hard to draw with feathers for hands.

5. The Braves should be ashamed of their peach design. Looks like a child drew it. Supposedly came from Braves creative director Insung Kim, who had a hand in several Braves uniform changes for the upcoming season.

A good t-shirt design is simple yet distinct, recognizable from a distance. Should be red, white, & blue or include the US flag, as well as a peach. My design would be a large flag with any lettering red, in place of the red stripes, with a big white peach replacing the stars on the blue field. Can’t believe no one has submitted that yet. Perhaps the liberal AJC nixed that idea.

Former UGA golfer Keith Mitchell won this weekend’s Honda Classic, the tenth UGA golfer to win a PGA event. Mitchell had previously teamed with Buck Belue to win the 680 charity golf tournament. Rumor is that Belue will speak at tomorrow’s Hot Stove meeting. His famous TD pass to Lindsay Scott against Florida was ranked 40th in the top hundred memorable college football moments in history.

Monday: worked until six. Straight home. Ceil cooked baked breaded chicken breasts, baked wedges of potatoes, sweet potatoes, and brussell sprouts, and tossed salad. Watched The Neighborhood and The Voice. Bed at ten. Had trouble sleeping. Thought I had turned the thermostat down, but at 1:30 am I went downstairs to check. Guess I hadn’t, or M had turned it back up.

Big news – there was a shooting today at the business next door. Two guys had a disagreement and one shot the other. The business used to be the huge Peachtree Windows & Doors, but after they moved away the space has been divided and is now several businesses, including a school. The shooter ran away (our plant is fenced off and semi-secure, our office building always locked). The police have the shooter’s car under watch, at some point he will have to return to get it. Not sure how the victim fared. Look for the story on the news.

Just learned Anna and her buds are driving down to Boca Raton for spring break this weekend. That’s a ten hour trip. Half the fun will be the drive.

Actor Luke Perry passed away this week. Makes me want to dig out the classic "Top Ten Beverly Hills 90210 Plot Twists." Colin Hanks shared an interesting tribute.
Good news: Saturday will be great for the Buckhead Diner. Can’t wait.
