College Football Awards

Watched the college football awards on ESPN. LSU won best coach, QB, WR, and DB. Maybe more.
Rodrigo won best kicker. Obviously nervous during interview. Folks in Iowa thought their man was robbed, and maybe he was. But Blankenship should’ve won last year. Hot Rod was featured in some of the extra interview segments as well.
Big feature on Herschel, honored for contributions to college football. Went on for over ten minutes, which is super rare for shows like that. Teammate Frank Ros gave a heartfelt speech, making a good argument for Walker’s induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Others claimed he should’ve won more Heismans. Walker’s first words were thanking Jesus Christ. Later a list of his accomplishments were posted, and Herschel said his greatest accomplishment was being a father.

Huge social media reaction: 99% favorable. Many said he transcended generations, races, social classes – someone who could bring a tattered nation together (many forget he is a Trump supporter). Walker was one of the first to openly discuss mental illness, and works tirelessly supporting the military. He talked about talking to a former Ku Klux Klan member whose heart was changed by Herschel.
Saw a couple of Clemson fans post “he never scored against us.” Goodness gracious. Neither did Mother Teresa. Way to cut a guy down while he’s being honored. What they don’t say: UGA won two of three, and played for the national championship both those years. One year Herschel was injured, still played, and was only used as a decoy (1983). Or that Walker gained 121 yards in the 1980 win and 111 yards in 1981. UGA lost in 1981 because other players kept fumbling and turning the ball over. But they never talk about that. #Facts

So easy to shop on line. We get the free Amazon shipping. Fun to search Amazon – for books, socks, shoes, etc. I also order from China some. We’re getting packages delivered almost every day. I even ordered my lawnmower from Amazon. Ceil gets fresh vegetables delivered every week. Easy to make a Christmas list on line.  Anna ordered the Christmas cards on line. Supposed to deliver “next week.” I need to write my family Christmas letter as well.

I do need to use Bing more. Google is like big brother watching over me. At work they have something else, with politically biased stories. But I’m not a big techy guy who changes their home page that much.

Spoiler: our card has a picture of our family. Okie is in the foreground but not the center of attention. Barney had been left inside cooped up. Anna must’ve felt bad about that so on the back she added a small photo of Barney.

Thursday: left work at 4:10. Stopped by the bank then met C at the Y. Did my 4 miles in little over an hour. Anna stopped by to eat supper and pick up a few items. Grilled vegetables over rice and pork tenderloin.

W&MC are having a open house / housewarming Sunday afternoon.

ERNIE BANKS [SABR Bio] the Texan’s nickname is the major league team he played for. “Mr. Cub”—only team he played for in MLB. He was the first player to hit three triples in a nine-inning game for his franchise since Gabby Harnett was a rookie - 3 X 3b = 11-Jun-1966—at age 35 no less! Charlie Hollocher hit 3 3B for CHC on 13-Aug-1922. Before he turned 25 years of age, he became the first major league player to hit five grand slams in one season - 5 Grand Slams in 1955 = 11-May; 29-May; 17-Jul (1); 02-Aug; and 19-Sep. These were the first 5 he hit. He hit 7 more during the remaining 16 years of his career.
