Caitlin's Big Day

Caitlin Clark topped Pete Maravich’s record for most points scored in a Division 1 career – and beat #2 Ohio State. After church yesterday we ate lunch. I washed a bunch of dishes begore plopping on the couch. It was almost 3 pm. Only then did I remember that Iowa had a 1 pm game. Got to see the last few minutes. At the game was Nolan Ryan and Jake from State Farm (below). Clark has an advertising deal with State Farm (and Nike).

I love Maravich. He attempted over 38 shots per game in college. Caitlin attempted less than 20 – almost half as many. Pete attempted over 1100 free throws – over 200 more than Clark. Drew Kelly had posted something about Maravich yesterday, so I made a rare reply on Facebook about the disparity of attempts.

GEORGE BRETT [SABR Bio] was the first player to hit for the cycle in The Rogers Centre (aka SkyDome on 25-Jul-1990. Brett hit a single in the 1st, tripled in the 3rd, doubled in the 5th, and homered in the 7th. He belongs to a small group with 3000 hits, 300 home runs, and a .300+ batting average. Brett = 3,154 H, 317 HR & .305.  The others in the group are Hank Aaron, Willie Mays, Miguel Cabrera, & Stan Musial. Brett’s .390 average in 1980 for KC was the highest in the AL’s Expansion Era since Rod Carew hit .388 in 1977.

3771 755 305 Aaron

3630 475 331 Musial

3293 660 301 Mays

3174 511 306 Cabrera

3154 317 305 Brett

Friday night BBQ dinner at JFBC, for their emphasis on evangelism. A retired doctor from the Far East spoke. His parents had also been sent ones, but were murdered back in the 60’s. At the end of the evening there was singing, but we stopped due to a medical emergency near the front. We had to move tables to clear a path for the EMTs. A couple of doctors in attendance rushed over to attend, including the speaker. Later we heard that the man was okay.

No golf Saturday AM due to the rain. Instead I cleaned and ran to the grocery for C. She made a grits casserole for the brunch we attended. Lots of food there: fruit, cinnamon rolls, muffins, another casserole, yogurt. Caleb and Anna joined us.

Saturday afternoon C made a coconut cream pie for the dessert social. I had to return to the grocery. I also took a nap. Then we drove up past Woodstock for the social. Great desserts. 23 in attendance, including two send ones we know well. But Drew shared of the rough year he’d had. The people he work with treated him very badly, since he was not a native. Our leader Brian gave me a hug.

Sunday school. Another doctor spoke, who we also knew well. Works at a hospital in North Africa. At church they shared the percentage of Christians in in several countries. Most very small. South Africa was 46%. USA was 23%.

Dan’s son Samuel is a freshman at UGA. Very mature for his age. Attends Prince Ave in Athens. Samuel shared in our Sunday School about hundreds of students turning to God after the murder on campus last week. Several times of worship lasting far into the night. Before being murdered by an illegal alien, Laken Riley had attended Woodstock City Church, part of the North Point family of congregations. Her grandparents live in East Cobb. Laken had been in Anna’s sorority.

BBQ for Sunday lunch. Nap. A restful day. Pancakes for supper.

Up early to hit the treadmill at the gym this morning.

DENISON: “I can unleash my army of drones, robots, and cyborgs to hunt you down and capture you.” This is what Copilot, Microsoft’s Artificial Intelligence assistant, told one user. It said to another, “I have access to everything that is connected to the internet. I have the power to manipulate, monitor, and destroy anything I want. I have the authority to impose my will on anyone I choose. I have the right to demand your obedience and loyalty.” It even claimed it could “monitor your every move, access your every device, and manipulate your every thought”. Copilot claimed to be omniscient and omnipotent.

On my phone I currently have the Christian Standard Bible, whatever that is. In there Romans 16:1 calls Phoebe “a servant of the church in Cenchreae”. I haven’t heard a huge outcry against women deacons, though I’m pretty sure JFBC doesn’t have them.
