Sac Fly at 20 Years

This coming Labor Day will begin my 20th year of blogging. As of yesterday I have posted 6509 times. Almost a third of my life.

I’ve created a scrapbook calendar every year since 1983, after moving away from Georgia Tech. That makes my current calendar my 42nd - two thirds of my life. For the longest time I’ve used the same black covered “At-A-Glance” monthly calendar, that has lots of extra pages before and after the twelve months, where I paste extra stuff. I’d like to think this history won’t just be thrown in a dumpster after I’m gone, but you never know. From time to time Will looks up my blog for information from his past. Unlike social media, it’s easy to look back on specific years and months for information.

The Barbra Streisand autobiography is interesting. After high school she moved from Brooklyn to Manhattan to become an actress. Helped a young Warren Beatty with an audition. At 18 she found more success as a singer. She opened for Phyllis Diller and Larry Storch. Storch told her she would be a star. Diller took her shopping to buy proper clothes, though Streisand felt more comfortable in the classic clothes she’d found at thrift stores. She changed her name from Barbara to Barbra because she liked it better. Early on she brought down the house at a fancy club by singing a spirited rendition of “Who’s Afraid of the Big Bad Wolf”. Not sure how I can ever finish all 48 hours, but it is entertaining.

I sit next to a Kentucky fan. Got several young sports fans here in the office…

“Classic” books that men should read. Not sure about the entire list, but I’ll add some to my list.
