This week was a first. In my entire work life, I have never gone out to eat all five days. ChickfilA, Wendy’s, Arby’s, a
Beatwriter Mark Bowman tweets that AirTran is running a 24 hour $47.00 special, in honor of Glavine. Last night Jeff Schultz said Bowman fell asleep in the press box during the game.
Will would enjoy the Braves batboy job, though it would take away all the time he enjoys spending with friends. One of the first “real” books I read as a kid was “Big League Batboy”, written in the 60’s by the Cardinals batboy. That autographed All Star ball is something. Each player only gets so many of them. Mazzone said he still has his…along with his WS and All Star Game rings, are some of the few mementos that he kept.
Will went to last night’s Braves game with Lucy, Christy, and Lucy’s dad, Lee. Lee played several sports years ago in high school, so I called him, to discuss Will. Will doesn’t know if he wants to play next spring, just coming off this season. ECB is such a factory, it’s hardly any fun. 95% of the players approach it like a job, afraid to mess up. Few exhibit passion. I think that’s what has Will down on it. The competition is tough…it’s hard. If your only goal in life is to play MLB or college, then ECB is the place to be. East Cobb only denotes where it’s located, with no bearing as to where the players come from. Guess that’s like all the golf, tennis, and baseball academies in Come next spring/summer, he’ll want to play. Softball with David Norman and other teammates won’t be the same as his last year of baseball. He did watch that recently televised USA/Canada softball game with interest. He doesn’t understand that now is the time to get on a team…next spring will be too late. I’m the bad guy for bringing it up. |
