Ozzie's Deal: Team Friendly?

The Braves signed Ozzie Albies to a team friendly contract, boosting him immediately from a rookie level salary to five million a year. Many complained the Braves were robbing Ozzie of 2-4 years of big money free agent money, but no one figured out the present / immediate value, getting paid now instead of several years later. Plus the risk of injury, or he could flop like he did in the second half of last season. He’s got a hole in his left-handed swing, and he likes to go after the high pitch. Maybe now Albies can afford some of those striped socks. Update: he did! (see above). And how did he score the Twitter handle @ozzie?

Now with the Acuna and Albies deals, the Braves have even more payroll flexibility to make trades, sign free agents, etc. The bullpen did better out in Colorado, and the lineup is in attack mode. If a starter struggles there are several others in Gwinnett to take their place.

Max Fried’s first few starts were among the greatest in history, better than Glavine, Maddux, and Smoltz and lots others.

Ceil had watched the Masters yesterday afternoon. When I came in I got to see some, but Ceil didn’t want to watch the replay. Guess I should’ve picked DeChambeau, Michelson, and Woods. Last night they were comparing Phil to Fred Couples, saying he should be able to compete will into his 50’s.

One day at the Masters usually doesn’t mean much. Or two days. Players just can’t be too far out of it come Sunday morning. Jason Day’s back was hurting Thursday, but he played well on Friday. Ian Woosnam was ten over par after his first 14 holes, but managed to birdie two of the last four holes. In a practice round Jordan Spieth skipped the ball over the water on the par three 16th hole. Then the ball ran up on the green and just missed rolling into the hole.

Got home before 6:30. Set up a shipment for work. Folded towels while watching the Masters. Had to go to Trader Joes at Pine Straw Plaza. Ceil kept texting me things to buy. She made homemade refried beans to go with rice. Instead of making an enchilada I put chips on my plate then added rice, beans, chicken, corn, and cheese.

Helped clean up then plopped on the couch. Masters, Braves, and Whiskey Cavalier. Went to bed before ten. Actually got out and walked/ran this morning. Started to rain a little just as I was getting back. Put in a load of laundry before work.

Lunch meeting today: BBQ. Also boss brought in donuts, eclairs, and fritters. He called me in his office first thing. Thought I was in trouble. Instead he had saved a fritter for me. Anna went to Six Flags tonight.
We should’ve planned a trip for when Ceil was off last week.

Listening to “To Kill a Mockingbird” for the first time ever. Good stuff. Read by Sissy Spacek with her lovely Southern accent. Sissy has appeared in an Academy Award-nominated movie for the past five decades: Coal Miner’s Daughter, Missing, JFK, In the Bedroom, and The Help.
