Backpacks and Satchels

Briefcases seem to be out of style these days. Looking for the perfect replacement. I’d go for a leather satchel, but not sure they’re in style either. Saw one on a TV show, but the show was several years old. Plus I’m not a huge fan of shoulder straps.

A leather backpack would be cool. I’ve looked high and low. Some have too many small outside pockets. Makes them look too busy. Some don’t have enough pockets. Some look like women’s purses. Some look too cheap. Checked out the Rawlings and Nokona baseball glove websites and other leather manufacturers, but nothing blew me away. Can’t decide.

Several guys in the office use regular backpacks (not leather). Lots of pockets. LOTS of pockets. Huge backpacks. Seems like overkill. One has a Swiss Army backpack. Saw another brand at Costco wil lots pockets. I’d like to keep it simple if possible.

Unless its leather, I don’t want some off brand. If I’m getting a regualr backpack I might as well get a cool brand like Colombia, Under Amour, or North Face. Not Nike. Checked out some of them but still not sure. Found a decent-looking Braves backpack that I hope to check out in person Saturday at the Braves Clubhouse Store during Chop Fest. Good color: black and navy.

Some backpacks have plug-ins for phone chargers and earphones. Not sure how they work. Might as well get the latest thing if possible.  If not dark brown leather then not all black: perhaps navy trim. I’ve done the all black thing for too long.

Focus group: almost through with my first Edwards pie: chocolate cream. Had a piece Saturday afternoon, then another late Saturday evening. Then a little for breakfast Sunday, more after church, then a piece Sunday night. A small piece for breakfast this morning. Will start on pie #2 on Tuesday: peanut butter & chocolate.

Super Bowl: I’m rooting for the Chiefs, since they do the tomahawk chop. Originally when the Dallas Texans moved to Kansas City they considered keeping the name Texans. A KC man had founded a Boy Scout like boys organization that adopted many customs of a local Indian tribe, and suggested the Chiefs. Sounds like the Braves plan on keeping the chop. Not sure if they will flinch or back down the next time someone complains.

For this week’s Senior Bowl QB Jalen Hurts is wearing a special helmet: half Alabama / half Oklahoma. Different shades of red. Half white face mask on the OK side and half grey mask on the AL side. Nice, but going every player who transfers will want a helmet like that.

Last week in the East West Shrine Game players swapped stickers and plastered them all over their helmets, as they’ve been doing for several years now. Super ugly if you ask me. Was glad to see UGA RB Brian Herrien have a clean red UGA helmet without extra stickers. He scored a TD in the game. UGA TW Woerner also played in an all-star game.

UGA kicker Rodrigo Blankenship is also playing in the senior bowl, so I’ll have to tune in. This past weekend he was in New Haven CT on an Ivy League campus for the Walter Camp All-America banquet. It was freezing outside but he still got in a workout.

Braves fans are worried about replacing 3B Josh Donaldson, who was paid $23 million last year and just signed with the Twins for 4 years $92 million. In 2018 Johan Carmargo batted higher than Donaldson. He didn’t have a position last year, but extrapolate Johan’s 2018 stats to Donaldson’s 2019 at bats, and the numbers aren’t too far off. Neither are Austin Riley’s, whose stats as a rookie will surely improve.

Of course all this is moot - the Braves just signed Ozuna to bat cleanup. He has some things in common with Donaldson.

Pickleball is big at the JFBC gym as well. MC’s mom Regina drives down from Cartersville to play. Not sure if she’s gotten C to play, but I know Will drove up to play once.

Monday: the YMCA was closed. Of course I didn’t know this. Slow day at work. I worked through lunch then left at 4:37. Changed clothes then headed to the gym. Was after 530 when I arrived and the parking lot was empty. Went home. C cooked meatballs for later in the week, and meatloaf for supper. With meatloaf she always fixes mashed potatoes and green peas. I had to go to Kroger for the peas.

Watched The Neighborhood and Bob Loves Abishola, then a Hallmark movie. Went to bed early. Slept late, past 630.

On my blog I created a tab with the Sports Illustrated cover from every Super Bowl, along with details from each game. Then I have backtracked, adding each NFL championship game going back to 1954.
