Six Days on the Go

Friday: left work early and drove to Macon. Traffic was bad so I didn't stop for gas or food. Got a late lunch – burger and shake from Cookout. My 89 year-old mother was all alone in the hospital so I stayed with her until visiting hours were over. Met with the case worker and everything was set to move mom to rehab the next day, so I confirmed final plans for the Memphis trip. Spent the night with my dad.

Saturday: found out first thing that mom's transfer wouldn't happen that day. Went up to the hospital. Met with mom and the case worker. It was mom's decision where to go, but someone else had messed things up. Mom had to stay in the hospital a couple of extra days because of the cancellation. While the nurses were tending to my mother I grabbed another burger and shake from Cookout. Later my was so worn out and upset from a long phone call she'd received that she fell asleep and napped all afternoon. I left at 9 pm, grabbed more Cookout (burger and shake for two bucks), and drove back to Atlanta.

Sunday School. Haircut. Laundry. Packed for trip. Ceil arrived home from SC and we split a chicken sandwich, fries, and big salad at Moxie Burger.

Grabbed Taco Bell on the way to Bruce's. Left there at ten. He drove. Went through Birmingham and lunched at Cracker Barrell in Jasper AL. I ordered breakfast, Bruce had grilled chicken tenders. Got to Memphis and dropped off our bags. L took us down to tour his office and the arena. Back home he grilled chicken. Stayed up late talking and watching Seinfeld.
Tuesday: rode with L to drop off B and GG. Back to get Bruce, then breakfast at Café Eclectic. I had a big omlette, Bruce a BLT. Later that afternoon Bruce and I toured Graceland then ate at Central BBQ, the best in Memphis according to many.

The Lorraine Motel was right next door so we walked around the outside to view the MLK memorials.

As we were making the short drive to L's office he texted me, saying someone was there we knew. Chad Eaton was in town so we talked to him before the game.
Later L took us down to the floor and right behind the basket to watch warmups. Took a bunch of pictures. Really cool. Walked around the concourse then watched L tape the pregame show (above). A good close game but Orlando just edged them. The crowd was really into it. Bruce got wine and popcorn.

After the game Bruce and I walked the block to Beale Street and checked out BB King's blues bar. Bruce wanted ice cream so we grabbed milkshake at CookOut. L beat us home. We stayed up late again, talking and watching Comedians in Cars.

Wednesday I got up to say goodbye to Isa and Beck. After showering and packing and talking to L we hit the road. Stopped by the pyramid to see the big Bass Pro Shop.
Drove through Nashville on the way home. Cracker Barrell in Murfreesboro: burger & fries (below). Bruce had another BLT. Made it to Bruce's before 8 pm and home by 830. C and M had eaten at El Felix.

When I saw the notification the season was cancelled I turned on ESPN. Tuesday evening I saw where a couple I knew had flown to Munich for their 30th anniversary. She's a Delta flight attendant. Today they were lucky to get on a flight home. Their son had just traveled to Austria this past weekend. C had brought a cough back from SC. Will shaved off his beard so his mask would fit better. Today my mom's rehab facility stopped allowing visitors. Guess I need to stop going to the gym.

Coworker's friend was at last night's Hawks game. Late in OT the fans were hearing news of the season being suspended, because they started chanting WE WANT VINCE! Carter finally went in the game to play the last few seconds, and drilled a three-pointer.

JIMMIE FOXX  [SABR Bio] was the first player to win multiple MVP awards as voted on by the BBWAA - MVP w/PHA in 1932 & 1933; another w/BOS in 1938. His earned his first MVP in a season where he didn't even make the All-Star team – 1st ASG was in 1933.  He was at that one but did not play. Gehrig was at 1st base. He hit at least thirty home run in a season an amazing twelve times. Five of those were more than forty. No right-handed batter has a higher career slugging percentage. Career SLG = .609. Only Ruth, Gehrig & Williams top that figure.
