Just started reading “The Matriarch: Barbara Bush, and the Making of an American Dynasty” by Susan Page. The former first lady was related to former president Franklin Pierce. Dirt on Nancy Reagan, who worked hard to exclude the VP and 2nd Lady from events like the reception for Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Barbara quit coloring her hair in her mid-30's, after it turned green from the chlorine in her lap pool.
Feeling almost good enough to go back to the gym, but I will probably skip this week. Might golf on Friday before driving to SC. Cough is like 80% gone. Did a bunch of reading about cough drops. Usually I don’t use them, but have been more the past week. I will try to not overdo the cough drop use, except here at work. My old boss Rodney swears by “Fisherman’s Friend” cough drops, whose recipe hasn’t changed since they came out in the late 1800’s.
Tuesday: got involved in a project and didn’t leave work until 6:30 pm. Ceil cooked burgers and baked French fries.
Man by the time we finished with supper and cleanup and I sat down on the couch and flipped on UNC vs Clemson – it was halftime.
Lately I have been starving. His morning I decided to stop for breakfast. Had to double back to Wendys, and of course I had to wait. Egg & cheese biscuits.
Ceil has small group tonight. Plenty of leftovers for me: a burger, a taco from Sunday, and chicken to make another taco.
Phil Mickelson claims to have made a whopping 47 holes in one, perhaps the second-most in history. Tiger says he’s only made 20, and went 20 years between making holes in one in tournament play.
JOHNNY BENCH [SABR Bio] won the NL Gold Glove at catcher from 1968 through 1977, his first ten full years in the majors. Bob Boone took home the gold in 1978 and again in 1979. Boone won five more in the AL. Bench was the first National Leaguer to catch least 100 each season for 13 straight seasons. He caught 100+ games from 1968-1980. Bill Dickey had done it in the AL from 1929-41. Yadier Molina became the all-time MLB record holder with 15 straight 100-game caught seasons (2005-2019). He once nailed three would-be base stealers in the same inning in the minors. As the youngest team member playing for the Hampton, Virginia Peninsula Grays of the Class A Carolina League in 1966, Bench also led the team in HR and RBI. He was in the majors the following season.
ARTICLE: supplements a SCIENTIST takes every day. Vitamin D. Fish oil. Magnesium. Vitamin B12. Folate (B9). Ginkgo biloba can help with weight loss and cognitive performance.
By the way, I took science classes in school. And I graduated from Georgia Tech. And I chaperoned numerous science expeditions with my kid’s science-based school. So that pretty much makes me a scientist, right?
Seems like so many in the world today have forgotten about the dangers of nuclear warfare, forgotten about Pearl Harbor, and forgotten even the atrocities of September 11. Those who fail to learn history are doomed to repeat it.
DENISON: Iran is closer than ever to possessing a nuclear bomb.
